Biography

Thomas Jerome Tenbusch, age 67 of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at his home, under hospice care, after fighting liver cancer for 4 years. He was born on June 5, 1954 in Minden City, to the late Raymond Tenbusch and Theresa (Michalski) Long. Tom married the love of his life, Theresa Peruski, on July 10, 2004 in Port Huron, and had celebrated 17 wonderful years together. Tom retired from Dow after 41 years, as fermentation operator. Before Dow, he worked with his brother Harv, in construction. He enjoyed woodworking, swimming, hunting, golfing, barbecue, old cars, and was a fixer of electric, plumbing and all carpentry needs.

Biography

Travis Daniel Fischer, 47, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family due to Covid-19 complications.All who knew Travis knew he was “one of a kind” with his die-hard love for the Detroit Lions and his extensive Batman collection. He could quote any Batman Movie made, and if you needed a movie recommendation, he was your guy. Travis dedicated many years to coaching football and baseball at North Huron, Bad Axe, and Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools. Many of those athletes became lifelong friends - even family. Travis will be remembered and missed by so many. His family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the members and staff of Scheurer Hospital and McLaren Bay Region for the dedicated care and compassion they gave Travis during his stay.

Lois Irene Geppert, 84, of Port Austin, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 at her home. Lois was born October 7, 1937 to the late Rupert and Florence Irene (Smith) Hilyer. She married Gerald Geppert on November 27, 1965 in Detroit; he preceded her in death September 11, 2010. Lois was an accomplished artist, painting sceneries and murals. She enjoyed bowling, tai chi, gardening, scrap booking, doing word searches and watching hummingbirds in her yard. She was a member and active volunteer at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon and an election official in Lake Twp.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fortunato, her two brothers, Henry and Tomas Singh, her great grandson, Joshua Losoncy and her beloved cat, Sugar.

Biography

Anita Lucille Rodriguez 91 of Peck, Mi went to meet the Lord on December 4, 2021 peacefully in her sleep at her home in Peck. Anita was born March 11, 1930 to Katar and Mary (Raybal) Singh, She married Fortunato Rodriguez September 3, 1950. Anita worked many places but retired from the Numatics Co. in Sandusky, MI. She was also a Sunday school teacher, a Woman's Ministry leader, VBS teacher, church secretary, held prayer meetings at her house, cleaned and decorated and even painted and made drawings for the church. She did custodial work at the Peck public library and the post office. Anita would clean houses, babysit for children and did overnight elder care for her friends and their families. One of her favorite things was to mow the lawn and work in her yard.

Together they had 4 children. Michelle enjoyed spending time with her family, playing card games, doing crossword puzzles, playing Bingo and watching football. She was always thinking of others first.

Biography

Larry W. Crews, 80, of Caseville passed into his glory to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 3, 2021 at home under hospice care, surrounded by family and friends. Larry was born June 6, 1941 in Pontiac to the late Francis and Joann (Meyer) Crews. He graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1959 and began a 40-year career with General Motors in Pontiac. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he held the position of General Superintendent of Experimental Engineering Manufacturing Services in the Truck and Bus Division. He attended Lawrence Tech while completing his apprenticeship as a Tool and Die Maker. Just prior to retirement he began the renovation of Crews Cottages on Lake Huron which was operated by his parents and Larry’s family since 1965. Larry loved and had a vision for building and renovating existing structures. Larry also loved the Gospel of his Lord and Savior and was involved with Calvary Baptist Church in Caseville. Larry loved to travel with his wife Julia whom he married on May 16, 1974 in Caro. Together they enjoyed boating on the St. Clair River, snowmobiling, and riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Lena McCrea, age 90, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe. She was born in Pinnebog on March 5, 1931, daughter of the late John and Sophie (Bambach) Doner. She married William McCrea on June 25, 1949. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2007. Lena served as Verona Township Clerk for over 25 years. She and Bill established Wil-Le Farms, where she played an integral part as partner and office manager. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and longtime member of Lost Lake Club in Lincoln, MI. She was a winter resident of River Woods Plantation in Estero, FL. She and her husband enjoyed many years traveling throughout many countries in connection with the farm industry.

Biography

Bob was born January 14, 1933 on the family farm near Elkton to the late Charles and Helene (Burzyck) Thiel. As a young boy, Bob was active in sports and loved teasing his siblings. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1951. On November 1, 1952 he married Selma Schubach at St. Francis Borgia Rectory in Pigeon. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After coming home from the Army, Bob joined his father-in-law, Stanley Schubach with the farming operation. Bob and Selma began Thiel Farms in 1976. Bob was a lifelong farmer, retiring from Thiel Farms in 2007. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish/St. Francis Borgia, Scenic Golf Course, and Michigan Farm Bureau. He was also President of Michigan Milk Producers, and an Asgrow Seed dealer for many years. Bob loved life and was filled with happiness; he always had a smile on his face and an uplifting attitude. Being around him was a joy as he told many stories that one couldn’t imagine occurring. In the fall and winter months, Bob enjoyed going off to deer camp, spending time ice fishing and going to Canada fishing with so many great friends. Additionally, he enjoyed watching various Laker athletic contests. Attending football and basketball games with his family was something he always looked forward to. Being the farmer he was, Bob also enjoyed watching his grandkid show at the Huron County Community Fair. Christmastime at the Thiel house was always eventful, and everyone looked forward to it. Singing Christmas Carols, Santa’s visit, and the roaring fireplace brought him and his family many laughs and good times. Truly, Bob lived for his family. They were the pride and joy of his life and their presence brought him so much happiness.

William Harold Eppenbrock “Spike”, age 93, of Bad Axe, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021. He was born on December 25, 1927 in Ruth Mi, son of the late William and Margaret (Hessling) Eppenbrock. He married Kathleen Wehner “Pat” on November 19, 1949 in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2010. He served in the US Navy with the Navy Seabees during WWII. He also served in the Detroit Police Department for 32 years, he retired as the Executive Lieutenant for the Narcotics Section. He was a member of the Ubly Fox hunters Club. He loved fishing, trapping, duck hunting, baseball, football, and basketball. Spike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Phyllis A. Woitowitz, 99, of West Branch, formerly of Caseville, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her granddaughter’s home in Hale. Phyllis was born June 2, 1922 in Roberts, Montana to the late Clarence and Gladys (Hoyt) Dues. In 1927 her family moved to Flint where she grew up and graduated from Beecher High School in 1941. She married George Woitowitz on July 28, 1942 in DeRidder, Louisiana; he preceded her in death September 5, 2009. Phyllis retired from Mott Children’s Medical Center and moved from Flint to Caseville in 1979. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion, Library Club, Red Hatters and Caseville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed card playing, dancing, spending winters in Florida, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Also surviving are his nephews, Shawn Gayari and Kyle Gayari of Pigeon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Ziel of Port Austin.

Biography

Chad J. Ziel, 56, of Caro (formerly of Bad Axe) died Sunday, November 28, in his home after a 3.5 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Chad was born in South Korea on June 27, 1965, and was adopted by Henry and Jeanette Ziel in 1974. He grew up on Zielland Farm in Port Austin and acquired a degree in Marketing from Ferris State University. Yearning to learn more about his culture of origin and family roots, Chad returned to South Korea where he met and married Su Na Ha on January 22, 1998. Chad brought his bride home to the family farm. Their daughter Hanna was born on January 3, 1999. Over the years, Chad and Su Na have owned and operated several small businesses in the thumb area: Bad Axe Super Tan, Ziel's Zoom Zone in Port Hope, Ziel's Mainstreet Liquor and Deli in Caseville, Ziel's Party Store in Elkton, and Ziel's Wine Shop in Caro. His curious nature had his mind always working. Games, puzzles, and all things with chance, luck, and skill, he never tired from. His passion was playing pool and winning tournaments. His competitive nature and outlook on life probably helped him survive pancreatic cancer a lot longer than most. Chad was a hard worker who was honest and kind to all, he believed in treating everyone equally and will be missed by all who met him.

She married David “Bud” Diebel on December 2, 1950. Jackie graduated from Cass City High School. She was a social butterfly, dressing for every occasion including her matching jewelry. She loved a good game of euchre or dominoes, antique dishes and going to the Senior Center in Bad Axe. Jackie worked for many years in Elkton for Max and Doris McKenzie at their store.

She then married Duard “Duey” Holz on November 20, 1971 and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2004. She was an 8th grade graduate of the Kelly School. She worked at General Cable in Cass City and Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was a member of St. Johns the Evangelist church in Ubly and previously St. Columbkille Church, Sheridan. She enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends, knitting, attending the Huron County Senior Center in Bad Axe, visiting friends and family at the nursing homes, attending her grandchildren’s activities, going out to eat and also faithfully watching the Detroit Tigers and the Catholic Channel.

Arlene Marie Emming, age 83 of Harbor Beach, passed way November 23, 2021 at Courtney Manor. She was born on March 1, 1938 in Sand Beach Township to the late Jerome and Stella Holdwick. She married Robert William Emming on June 1, 1957 in Helena. He proceeded her in death on October 10, 2014. Arlene attended Ashmore Country School for 9 years. She graduated from OLLH High School in June 1953. She obtained her ART (Accredited Record Technician) Degree through American Medical Record Association. Arlene worked at Klump’s Restaurant for several years. She worked at Harbor Beach Community Hospital for 27 ½ years in the medical record department. While there she was the Medical Records Director. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Helena and OLLH (Holy Name of Mary Parish) in Harbor Beach, all her life. She sang in the choir at St. Anthony’s for many years. She loved to cook and she baked many wedding cakes. She crochet and knitted sweaters for Knit for Kids for needy children, and she like working on Sudoku puzzles. She sewed many quilt tops for the Helena Loving Ties Quilting Group.

Theodore “Ted” F. Gundlach, age 81, of Bad Axe, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Ted was born on April 21, 1940 in Richmond, MI, son of the late Elmer M. and Clara (Makowski) Gundlach. Ted graduated from Richmond High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. After he was discharged from the Army in 1961, he joined his brother Richard and sister-in-law Theresa, to establish Gundlach Bros. Farm, where they enjoyed many years farming together. Ted was a very special member of the family, although he had no children of his own, he was like a second father to Richard and Theresa’s children and they will always have fond memories of growing up with their Uncle Ted. His faith in God and his church family were very important to him. Ted was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe, serving as an elder for many years.

Deborah was born on August 25, 1979 to Mary Brandow and the late Gary A. Soper Sr. Deborah married Gary Bailey, and together they have three children. She graduated with a high school diploma, worked at Harbor Beach Hospital as a certified nursing assistant and was working on continuing her education. Deborah enjoyed caring for the elderly, and also worked in resale at the Dollar General. Deborah enjoyed her dogs, raising animals; chickens, ducks and rabbits. She loved spending time in her flower gardens and being outdoors, kayaking, canoeing, sitting around a campfire and camping with her family. Her children were her most cherished responsibilities in her life.
