Elaine Mae Eggert, age 82 of Harbor Beach, passed away on December 18, 2021 when the Lord her Savior called her home. She was born on December 23, 1938 to the late Hugo and Olga (Pleiness) Eggert in Bloomfield Township. She was confirmed on July 1, 1951 in Bloomfield Trinity Lutheran Church. She is now a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. She attended Wade School for 8 years. Elaine was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School in 1955. She worked in places such as: Port Austin, Bad Axe, and Ubly at Hamill making seat belts. She enjoyed being with family and friends, going to church events, and loved baking, cooking, gardening flowers, her car and taking care of her cats.

Peggy is survived by her parents Jeffrey and Marjorie (Iseler) Phillips; siblings Debra (Tom) Kervin, Ruth Phillips, John (Kelley) Phillips, and Joseph Phillips; nephews James and Noah and her nieces Natalie and Fiona.
Peggy Sue Phillips passed away after a short battle with cancer. Peggy was a hard-working woman who enjoyed cheering on her sports teams and making cards. She will be remembered for her love of family and will be missed for her unending support of family and friends. She loved working with the employees of her various stores she managed and felt of them as an extended family. She enjoyed spending her vacations helping on the family farm where she loved working with the animals and helping her parents. The many pictures that she took were a source of constant remembrance of her joyful attitude in all the things she did. Peggy leaves behind many friends and family in Michigan and in Washington who will miss her positive demeanor and her ability to see the good in the toughest of situations.

Iva E. Rockwell, 96, of Cass City, died Saturday, December 18, 2021 in Medilodge of Cass City. She was born May 21, 1925 in Allenton to Arthur and Mildred (Edgerton) Esckilsen. She married Morris Rockwell December 1, 1943 in the Methodist parsonage in Marlette and they made their home in Evergreen Township. He died June 5, 1994. Iva attended Bennet School in Wisner and Chamber school in Evergreen Township. Over the years, she worked for Walbro, the Argyle Hotel as a bartender, and Hills and Dales General Hospital of Cass City in the food service department until she retired. Iva was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as, Hills and Dales General Hospital Auxiliary. She possessed a green thumb for growing indoor plants. A good cook, Iva enjoyed preparing favorite dishes and baking delicious cookies. She loved hosting her family for Sunday dinners.

Maxine was born November 22, 1941 in Plattsburgh, New York to the late Oren and Mildred (Moore) Henry. She married Bobby Lentz on July 28, 1962 in Dannemora, New York. She graduated from Mildred Elley College in Albany, New York and retired from the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor. She was a member of Bay Port United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women and the UMW knitting group. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, traveling, reading, camping and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Therese (Bouverette) Prill, his brothers Dennis Allen Prill and Stephen John Prill, and his sister Monica Ann Prill.
Gregory Martin Prill, 62, of Elkton, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his sleep on December 17, 2021. Greg was born on March 26, 1959, in Bad Axe, the son of the late Martin and Therese (Bouverette) Prill. He graduated in 1977 from North Huron High School in Kinde. He was married to Debra (Rogers) Prill from 1979 to 2006, and was later remarried to Aileen (Shedd) Prill from 2007 to 2020. Greg was an extremely hard worker. He grew up on a farm and continued to work on farms, and later in factories, including Spartan Carbide, Thumb Tool & Engineering, DRW Systems Carbide, and Huron Casting. He loved people, and he loved to entertain them with his larger than life personality and humor. In recent years, he spent his time volunteering with the Elkton Lions Club. He volunteered at over 150 Pop Up Food Pantries, helping to distribute food to people in need. He also regularly attended church services at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. When he wasn’t volunteering, he was happily enjoying a cup of coffee and chatting with anyone and everyone that he ran into in Elkton. Greg was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2014, and he was given a second chance at life by a successful stem cell transplant. His family would like to thank his anonymous stem cell donor, as well as The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, and the excellent local physicians and friends who have provided care to him over the past 7 years. We cherish each and every additional memory that we were able to make with Greg during this time. God bless all of you.

Donald H. Ventline died December 16, 2021, after an extended illness. He was born on March 11, 1950 in Bad Axe, the son of Harry and Edna Ventline. He and Debra Craig were married on May 20, 1989 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. Don, who served in the Army, was a member of the American Legion Post 499 of Port Austin. He was a member of the Port Austin Conservation Club, St. Michael’s Church of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Port Austin, and a graduate of Port Austin High School. Don loved being a grandpa. He also loved working at Pt Aux Barques and the entire Port Aux Barques family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and splitting wood.

Melvin R. “Cass” Kramer, age 80 of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Harbor Beach Community Hospital. He was born on February 15, 1941 in Harbor Beach to the late Raymond and Stella (Holdwick) Kramer. Cass worked on the farm his whole life, and especially enjoyed raising beef cattle. He enjoyed cooking for everyone, hunting, fishing, going to his sister’s lodge, and heading up north to the Northern Michigan Livestock Feeder Cattle auctions. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and the St. Anthony’s Men’s Club. He even started his own farm coffee shop where he served his friends and neighbors every Saturday.

Peter James Sadro, 62, of Palms passed away at his home on December 14, 2021. Anyone that knew Pete always labeled him as a hardworking man that always had a smile on his face. In his free time, Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, working outside in the yard, watching sports, and attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Pete passed away after a long battle with cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Pete managed his illness with strength and Grace. He wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day he was surrounded by his family, who he adored.

James Ronald Swartz, age 68, of Harbor Beach, Michigan passed away from health complications at Beaumont Hospital on Monday, December 13, 2021. James (also known as Jim) was born on May 26, 1953 to Norman and Angeline Swartz. He grew up on his parents’ farm in Harbor Beach. He played football and baseball in High School. In his earlier career, Jim worked beside his mother Angeline, owning and operating Al’s Restaurant, well known for its prime rib and fried perch.? In the late 1970’s Jim met Rita Mosher at Al’s Restaurant; they were united in marriage on July 17, 1981. After 25 years in the restaurant business, Jim went on to serve over 20 years as a Field Agent at Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member at the Harbor Beach Gun Club. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, bowling, and playing cards. He was an avid University of Michigan fan. Jim was full of life. He loved to tell jokes and spend time with family. He especially enjoyed making his grandchildren laugh and watching them run around. He was a great man, and we will all miss him more than words can say.

She was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne and her son Ren. She is survived by three children, Marjorie Cook (Myron), Duane Hanselman (Deb), and Barbara Malcolm (Tom). In addition, she has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Regina is survived by one brother Gerald Clor, three sisters Marie Klee, JoAnn (Lewis) Slavick, and Patricia Clor, as well as three sisters-in-law, Laura (Fabian) Clor, Ilene (Benjamin) Clor, and Verna (Gabriel) Clor. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Clara Clor, her brothers Luke, Fabian, Gabriel, and Benjamin as well as two sisters-in-law Nora Clor and Priscilla Clor.
Regina (Jean) Hanselman was called home by the Lord on Saturday, December 11 while under hospice care at Meadow Lane in Bad Axe. She was born on June 30, 1931, and attended the White Rock School. On November 8, 1952, she married LaVerne at St. John Chrysostom Church in Forestville. Regina, LaVerne, and their children lived in a home they built in Ruth in 1955. She was devoted to her church community at Sts. Peter and Paul in Ruth where she was actively and continuously involved for seven decades. Most notably, she was a member of the Christian Mothers' Sodality, serving as its leader for many years, as a cook in the school kitchen where she spoiled the students with home-cooked meals and baked goods, and as a worker at the annual Labor Day weekend Mama Ruth Picnic. In recognition of her many years of dedicated service to the Church, she was named "Mama Ruth" in 2011. Regina also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Regina was a skilled seamstress, making outfits for herself and her children. She maintained a large vegetable garden and many flower beds. Her children learned to weed, pick, clean, and help preserve many fruits and vegetables. When her children were older, she worked at Volz's IGA in Minden City, and then as a nurse's aide at the Deckerville Community Hospital. Later in life, she served as a hospice volunteer for sixteen years. In 1960 Regina and LaVerne joined the Country Western Square Dance Club where they remained active members for over fifty years. They also enjoyed Senior Dance Club dances in Bad Axe and Sandusky. They were avid campers with their children. Later they camped while attending many weekend square dances throughout the State. After their retirement, Regina and LaVerne spent a part of several winters in Florida. For many decades they were members of card clubs that met during the winter months. Euchre was the game of choice, but Regina also enjoyed playing Pinochle and Bridge. Regina will be remembered with fondness by the many people whose lives she touched.

She loved music, playing guitar, piano and organ. She shared her gifts in music as a director of music at several local Catholic Churches. She enjoyed gardening and baking, and most all spending time with her friends and family.

Valarian David “L J” Kanaby of Port Austin passed away on Friday December 10, 2021 at the age of 60, after a long battle with cancer. Larry was born on July 22, 1961 to Valarian and Frances Kanaby. On June 27, 2021, he married Tricia Kauffman, in a beautiful, eventful outdoor wedding at Pt. Aux Barques. Larry was well known for his carpentry and building skills and talents, working alongside his Dad for 48 years as Kanaby Builders. L J was an avid runner; running in many marathons, including Detroit, and Boston. He participated in many triathlons, dri-athlons, cross country skiing, avid cyclist, kayaker, avid outdoorsman, he enjoying hunting; and a friend to everyone that met him. L J was very active in the Bad Axe and Port Austin Lions Clubs.

She was born on February 14, 1936 to the late John and Elizabeth (Flint) Uicker. Katherine worked as a librarian for the City of Detroit, in the children's library. She enjoyed reading, especially to children, quilting, playing the piano, and being with her grandchildren.

She was born on February 5, 1924 in Harbor Beach, to the late James and Alice (McCullough) Huxtable. Rosanna & Norbert Kramer were united in marriage on January 2, 1959 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1989. Rosanna had worked for Dr. R. Zellman, dentist, and Dr. C.W. Oakes for Several Years. She was a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary of Harbor Beach, and was treasurer for 28 years.

Dean J. Booms, age 57 of Freeland, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on August 24, 1964 in Bad Axe to the late James and Mary Louise (Sweeney) Booms. He and Jacqueline Woycik were united in marriage on January 29, 1988 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Dean worked for the State of Michigan for many years. Dean enjoyed a good deal and was always on a lookout. He enjoyed checking the weekly Menards ads and looking for online auctions. But most of all, he enjoyed being with family and his grandchildren.

William F. Sanford, 90, of Ubly, passed away on December 7, 2021 at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan. He was born in Garden City, Michigan on January 18, 1931. His parents are the late Homer and Nora Sanford. Bill worked on a farm for many years before working for Halfway Fence Company as a supervisor. He also was the chef at the Moose Lodge in Rapson for many years. Bill enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Michael Thomas Sweeney, age 69, of Ubly, passed away at his home on Monday, December 6, 2021. Michael was born on March 7, 1952 in Cass City, Michigan, son of the late Cornelius “Neil” D. and Florence (Bulla) Sweeney. He was a graduate of Ubly High School and Michigan State University. He was a long time employee of Active Industries and retired from Tower Automotive in 2019. Michael was also co-owner of Sweeney Farms. He was a homebody who also enjoyed being outdoors; working on the farm, hunting and tinkering around. Mike especially enjoyed his time with his brothers and nephews at “the shed”, family parties and get-togethers.

Thomas Jerome Tenbusch, age 67 of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at his home, under hospice care, after fighting liver cancer for 4 years. He was born on June 5, 1954 in Minden City, to the late Raymond Tenbusch and Theresa (Michalski) Long. Tom married the love of his life, Theresa Peruski, on July 10, 2004 in Port Huron, and had celebrated 17 wonderful years together. Tom retired from Dow after 41 years, as fermentation operator. Before Dow, he worked with his brother Harv, in construction. He enjoyed woodworking, swimming, hunting, golfing, barbecue, old cars, and was a fixer of electric, plumbing and all carpentry needs.
