Biography

Shelly Ann Yaroch-Hammarskjold, age 61, of Dearborn, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017. She was born to the late Sylvester and Irene M. Yaroch of Bad Axe in 1956. “Three things that will last forever-Faith, Hope, and Love; But the greatest of these is Love” was one of Shelly’s favorite passages and was the story of her life. She had a mothering love and worried as a loving mother would about those in her life. It was her natural way of showing how special you were to her. Growing up in Huron County and graduating from Bad Axe High School was a source of pride for her and she carried her hometown with her wherever she went, including the University of Michigan, where she achieved a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She entered the workforce and served as a social worker for about 20 years and later switched to a career in Interior Design. Charitable work was important to her and she recently organized renovations for Interim House in Detroit – a shelter for at-risk women and children. Family and friends were Shelly’s joy and she particularly loved visits with her out of state nephews and their growing families. Rolling up her sleeves and helping with painting or sewing curtains for them made her happy, as did working in her own garden. She loved to make beautiful things even more beautiful, whether it was jewelry, a flower garden or a favorite recipe. The last chapter in Shelly’s life truly showcased her courage and faith. She fought cancer valiantly until the very end and will be remembered by us forever as a role model for inner strength. Our time with Shelly wasn’t enough, but she reminded us that she will be with us every day, just in a different way, and we can take comfort from that! Her final wish was to “Go home” to her beloved Huron County, so final arrangements will include funeral and interment in Bad Axe, MI.
