Joshua Nicholas Peyerk, age 32, of Filion, passed away on November 30, 2017. Joshua was born in Bad Axe on November 16, 1985, son of Thomas and Kimberly (Azar) Peyerk. Joshua enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, four wheelers, snowmobiles and driving his Lincoln with speakers bumping. He also liked the beach, taking pictures of clouds, cooking and helping his neighbor Dan Lasceski with farm work. Of course, Joshy P. had a lot of fun making videos and Snapchats to entertain all his friends and family. He enjoyed making people smile and laugh. He gave great hugs as well.

Dorothy Murray was born on August 11, 1928 in Gagetown, MI and passed away November 29, 2017 in Okemos, MI at the age of 89. She was a resident of Williamston and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church since 1960. Dorothy drove school bus for Williamston Community Schools for 23 years. She loved dancing, playing cards and traveling especially spending time in Arizona. Dorothy was known for her infamous cinnamon rolls.

Eleanor D. Tate, 88, of Pigeon, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Eleanor was born February 17, 1929 in Pigeon to the late Otto and Lydia (Trost) Schulze. She graduated from Pigeon High School in 1946. On August 14, 1949 she married Raymond “Bud†Tate; he preceded her in death on March 13, 2008. She loved her God and was a lifelong active member of Cross Lutheran, serving in many volunteer positions. She worked on the farm and at Polewach’s, before quitting to take care of her parents. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Philip was born September 18, 1959 in Grosse Pointe Farms to the late Edward and Judith (Carnacchi) Zoldos. He graduated from Clarkston High School. He married Patricia York on January 2, 1981 in Waterford. He was formerly employed at AC Tire & Service in Waterford before moving from Holly to Huron County in 1999. Marilyn A. Luedtke, 73, of Bay City and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2017 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City. Marilyn was born in Sandusky, Michigan on December 30, 1942 to the late Floyd and Lucille (Hebert) Milton. She married Martin C. Luedtke. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2013. Marilyn was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bad Axe. In her younger years, she loved to go hunting and fishing. Marilyn raised two wonderful daughters. In her household, she was known to be “Mrs. Fix-It†as she could fix just about anything. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking nature walks, biking, going on long car rides, picking asparagus and berries off the side of the road and watching birds and deer.

Lillian Murawski, age 78, of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Lillian was born on May 3, 1939, in Minden City, daughter of the late Frederick and Minnie (Stutzky) Seltz. She married Bernard “Ben†Murawski in 1962 in Detroit. . Ben preceded her in death on December 2, 1977. Lillian worked for the Department of Human Services for the State of Michigan as well as the Secretary of State. Lillian enjoyed cooking, knitting, bird watching, reading and most of all spending time with family and friends at her cottage on the lake, where she would take long walks along the beach. She remained very close to her husband’s family after he passed away and was in contact with them almost daily. She was loved by all who knew her.

Mr. Kenneth Eugene Messing, 77 of Ruth, went to be home with the Lord Sunday November 26, 2017 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw. He was born September 10, 1940 in Ruth to the late Wilfred J. and Wanda (Skorka) Messing. Kenneth sailed the Great Lakes for several years as a hand picked crewman on the Edmund Fitzgerald. He farmed most of his life, retiring in 2014. M. Lorraine Steely, 79, of Decker, died peacefully Sunday, November 26, 2017 in her home. She was born July 6, 1938 to Paul William and Delia (Pilette) LaChapelle in Detroit. She married Joe Calvin Steely September 21, 1963 in Mt. Clemens. He died May 1, 1990. In her early years, Lorraine worked as a secretary for Good Housekeeping in Detroit. After moving to the Decker area in the early 1970s with her husband, she was employed by Cass City School as a teacher’s aide. Lorraine went on to work in Hills and Dales General Hospital as a ward secretary and Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 27 years. She liked reading books particularly mysteries. Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her family especially her many grandchildren. Always a faithful fan, she loved rooting for the Detroit Tigers.

Arthur G. Nitz, age 93, died peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw, MI. Art was born on May 25, 1924, on the family farm near Bach, MI the son of Gustav and Emma (Bachmann) Nitz. He was united in marriage to Inez M. Hercliff on January 17, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing, MI. They shared 61 years together until her death in 2009. Art attended St. Peter Lutheran School in Bach, MI where he was confirmed in the Christian faith in the German language. During WWII he was sent to Michigan State University to study agriculture where the motto was: “Keep’em fed.†He farmed his whole life, working first with his father and then his son. He was involved in the stewardship of his land until his death. Art was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bach, MI where he served in many capacities, including Elder, Trustee, Cemetery Committee, choir and Bible Study. Within the community, he also served on the Board of Directors for the Sebewaing Coop Elevator, Sebewaing Producers Dairy, Huron/Tuscola County Artificial Breeders Association, Huron County Agricultural Advisory Board, The Building Committee for Scheurer Hospital, Riverside Farm Bureau, Sebewaing Lion’s Club, and the Pigeon Men’s Chorus. Art loved baseball, hunting, and singing. He freely shared his firm faith in God with the people he met, and through the generations of his family.

Patricia Ruth Steffen of Caro, age 88, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Medilodge of Cass City. Pat was born June 10, 1929 in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Stanley & Josephine (Simmet) Miller and was a 1947 graduate of Caro High School. She later attended Central Michigan College where she studied library science. She was united in marriage with Gale William Steffen on September 9, 1950 in Ohio, and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2015. Pat’s life revolved around taking care of her family and raising the six children she and Gale were blessed with. She was a member of an Extension Club during her time in Ubly as well as a card club in Caro. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Detroit Pistons and Lions.

Mrs. Janet M. (Shagena) Smoot, 79 of North Carolina and formerly of Freiburg, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 in North Carolina. Janet was born on August 19, 1938 in Tyre to the late Stanley and Margaret (Gatz) Shagena. She married Lloyd M. Smoot on June 14, 1958 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2004. Janet was a graduate of Ubly High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lerash Meat and Grocery in Bad Axe. Janet moved to Pontiac in 1958 and resided there until she and Lloyd moved to Pinellas Park in Florida in 1985. They moved back to the Pontiac area in 1993 and then moved to Charlottesville, North Carolina in 1997. Their last move was to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1999 and she has resided there until the present. Janet was a parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC.

John E. Albrecht, 92, of Pigeon, formerly of Sebewaing, died peacefully in his favorite chair on Thanksgiving evening, November 23, 2017 at Country Gardens in Pigeon having spent the whole day with his family enjoying Thanksgiving dinner and time together. John was born February, 2, 1925 at the family farm in Bay Port to the late Mose and Mary E. (Gunden) Albrecht and attended Snell School. On July 15, 1948 he married Betty King in Elida, Ohio; she preceded him in death October 25, 2006. He was a lifelong member of the Pigeon River Mennonite Church, where he had been an elder and Sunday school teacher. His career was also his passion, working as a sales rep in the agricultural feed business, specializing in poultry. He modeled a life of hard work in combination with time of leisure. He enjoyed his time spent outdoors, fishing, card games, driving, visiting with friends at Lefty’s, and searching for a deal at auctions, all with much laughter.

Noreen is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Terrence McDonnell of Bad Axe; her son, Terrence (T.J.) McDonnell and his wife, Yun, of Lansing; her sisters-in-law, Carolyn McVey of Bad Axe, Mary Riordan of Indianapolis and Patricia McDonnell of White Lake; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy N. McDonnell; her son, Judson G. McDonnell her brother, Robert McVey Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, John L. McDonnell and Richard Riordan.
Noreen S. McDonnell, 85, of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2017 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City, Michigan. Noreen was born on August 17, 1932 in Harbor Beach, Michigan to the late Robert and Ruth McVey. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1950, and received her B.A. diploma from Michigan State University in 1954. On July 5, 1956, she married Terrence J. McDonnell at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. They have remained happily together during stays in Nashville, Washington D.C., Virginia and lastly, in Bad Axe. Noreen especially loved spending her winters in Mexico with friends from around the world who visit there.

Sarah is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Walter Wilson of Bad Axe; her daughter, Marie Cummings and her husband, Delbert of Gladwin; her brother, Sam Glasgow and his wife, Liz, of Bad Axe; sister, Marie Isbister of Bad Axe; sister in law, Kelly Grillo and her husband, Dr. Alan, of Ludington; and her neices and nephews, Danielle (Tim) Dixon, Kevin Isbister, and Kayla, Alexandra, and Karri Grillo.
Sarah L. Wilson, 69, of Bad Axe, formerly of Almont, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City. Sarah was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on January 16, 1948 to the late Thomas and Lorraine (Apley) Glasgow. She married the love of her life, Walter E. Wilson Jr., on July 18, 1970 at the Bad Axe Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1966. Sarah earned her Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from Olivet Nazarene University, Illinois in 1970. She then earned her Master's Degree in Education in 1979 from Oakland University, Michigan.In 1992, she earned her legal assistant degree from Oakland University. Sarah worked for an attorney in Romeo, Michigan. Walter and Sarah moved from Almont to Bad Axe in 1998. She was an English Professor at Davenport University at the Bad Axe campus, St. Clair County Community College in Bad Axe and at Baker Community College in Cass City, totaling twenty years of teaching. Sarah was a past Village President of Almont and was on the Bad Axe Planning Commission for many years. Sarah was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping and keeping in touch with friends.

Keith R. Sturm, 85, of Pigeon, died peacefully Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at home with his family beside him. Keith was born in Bad Axe on October 22, 1932, son of the late H. Alfred and P. Alice Decker of Pigeon. In 1951 he graduated from Pigeon High School and then completed a short course at Michigan State College. He married Joanne Dowling on July 15, 1961 in Unionville. Keith retired as a dairy and crop farmer, working in partnership with his brother Wayne. He was active in his community in many capacities. He served as president of the Huron County Farm Bureau and was on the board of the Farm Credit Services. He was a member of the Pigeon Rotary Club and served as president. He was chairman of the McKinley Township Zoning Board and a volunteer for the Huron County Triad. He was a faithful member of the Pigeon First United Methodist Church.

Janice Muriel Chippi, 80, of Cass City, died Monday, November 13, 2017 at home following a brief battle with cancer. She was born January 30, 1937 at home in Sanilac County the only child born to Frank Arnold and Geraldine (Sweet) Laming. She married Duane William Chippi February 6, 1954 in Cass City. Janice worked for General Cable for six years. Together with Duane, they owned and operated Cass City Oil and Gas and Mr. Chips Service Stations where Janice worked as bookkeeper for many years. Janice owned and enjoyed many horses over the years. She was fond of reading books, especially mysteries. Janice was always eager to go on cruises and to play cards. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Travis Paul Baur, 27, of Bay Port, died Friday, November 10, 2017 of injuries received in an automobile accident near Elkton. He was born April 6, 1990 in Bay City to Duane and Shelley (Ritter) Baur. He graduated from Lakers High School in 2008 and then received an engineering degree from Michigan Tech. He married Emily Schinnerer on August 12, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Travis worked as an engineer at Walbro in Cass City. He enjoyed hunting, playing piano and guitar, boating and snowmobiles.

Skyler was born on April 17, 2014 in Bad Axe, daughter of Steven Michalski and Cassandra Paolucci. Skyler was a fun loving girl who was full of life. She enjoyed being with her parents and her family. She was hardly ever away her big brother Seth. She loved dancing to "Alvin and the Chipmunks"and “Uptown Funkâ€. Â

She was born October 5, 1928 to the late Charles and Martha Becking. She married Harold Bannick in 1947. He preceded her in death March 13, 1999. Her brothers Robert and Charles Becking also preceded her in death. Ilene enjoyed spending many hours in her flower garden and cultivating beautiful flowers for all to enjoy.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher William Holdwick; brothers-in-law Robert Holdwick and Leo Holdwick; and sisters-in-law Loretta Stacer and Lenora Krups.
Clarann Holdwick, age 77 of Harbor Beach, Michigan passed away Thursday November 9, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side under hospice care. She was born on August 11, 1940 in Ruth, Michigan, to the late Norbert and Mary Kramer. Clarann enjoyed doing craft projects and going to craft shows. She also liked to crochet, play cards (especially bridge) and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Harbor Beach Garden Club and enjoyed attending the Town Hall programs in Port Huron. Clarann and Roman were united in marriage on November 15, 1958 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, Michigan where she was a parishioner.
