Biography

Lloyd R. Nicholas, age 71, of Sebewaing, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. Lloyd was born July 3, 1946, in Gagetown, to Earl and Lola (Ingalsbe) Nicholas. After high school he served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He then married Paula Buss on July 30, 1966, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sebewaing. He retired from GM in Saginaw. For many years he was a volunteer for the Sebewaing Township Ambulance. Lloyd was a member of the Sebewaing Sportsman’s Club VFW Hall, a Trustee Chair at Trinity United Methodist Church and was a member of the Men’s Group. Lloyd enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his pond and lawn, and loved his dogs and cats.

Stannette E. Malosky, 79, of Caseville, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at home under the gracious care of A&D Home Health Care. Stannette was born February 8, 1938 in Flint to the late Stanley and Emma (Melcer) Hagen. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1965. She married Frank Malosky December 8, 1979 in Liberia, West Africa while serving in the US Peace Corps. Frank preceded her in death April 4, 2005. She was passionate about singing with the Sweet Adelines and working as a realtor and broker with Scenic Reality. She loved her home that she built with her late husband on Caseville Beach. She was devoted to and loved her Lord, Jesus.

Dona J. Strieter, 87, of Unionville, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon. She was born February 27, 1930 in Bad Axe to the late Oscar and Gertrude (Day) Sternberg. On July 12, 1952 she was united in marriage to Richard Dean Strieter in the Unionville Moravian Church; he preceded her in death on December 10, 2006. Dona received her registered nursing degree in 1951 from Saginaw General Hospital; her 44 year nursing career was spent working throughout Tuscola County. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. Dona was a long time member of the Unionville Moravian Church and the Michigan Nursing Association.

Biography

James D. Ritchie, age 79 of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at his home under hospice care. He was born on October 4, 1938 in Harbor Beach to the late Robert and Alice (Pettit) Ritchie. Jim and Marilyn Laeder were united in marriage on June 9, 1962 in Harbor Beach. Jim was a retired employee of the Huron County Road Commission retiring after over 30 years of service. He was the owner/operator of the Ritchie Fire Equipment, Inc. since 1967. He joined the Harbor Beach Area Fire Department in 1960, and was a former fire chief. He was a first responder with the Ramsey Ambulatory Service during the 1970s, and joined the Eastern Huron Ambulance Service in 1979. He continued his fire service career by becoming a State of Michigan Fire Instructor, he was a member and Past President of the Michigan State Fireman’s Association; was a past secretary/treasurer of the past Presidents Fireman’s Club. Jim was a member of the Two Cylinder John Deere Club, and was a former employee of the Toppin-Hazel John Deere Dealership. He enjoyed planting trees, and working in his shop.

Marie A. Grifka, 75 of Ubly, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 at her home. Marie was born on August 22, 1942 in Ubly to Vivian (Leppek) Rumptz and the late Clarence Rumptz. She married Jerry Grifka on January 9, 1965 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2001. Marie was a 1960 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked at General Cable in Cass City. She also worked for the banks in Minden City and Ubly. Marie worked very hard on the farm next to her dearest husband, Jerry. She enjoyed camping, bowling and she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat was the life of any party. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. Pat took great pride in his three children and their many accomplishments. He truly cherished time spent with his grandson. Pat was a 1975 graduate of Ubly High School. He was the former owner of O’Malley’s Bar in Bay City. He was employed at Gemini Plastics in Ubly.

Theda F. Seeger, 99, of Cass City, died Monday, December 11, 2017 in Tuscola County Medical Care Community, Baldwin House in Caro. She was born April 22, 1918 in Cass City the youngest of three children of Simeon and Bertha (LePla) Bardwell. She married Donald Clark Seeger May 28, 1941 in Cass City. He died October 8, 1970. Theda worked for Walbro as a Supervisor retiring after 27 years. Theda loved to travel. She visited all 50 states, all provinces in Canada except the most North provinces, Australia, Germany, British Isles, France, Switzerland, Belgium and many other places. She was a former member of Elder Hostel, Fraser Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star serving twice as Matron, Cass City Business and Professional Women, Hills and Dales Hospital Auxiliary working many years at the blood bank. Theda enjoyed working with her flowers and for many years, quilted at Fraser Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Lillian M. Schumacher, 82 of Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on June 29, 1935 in Harbor Beach to the late Roy and Mary (Chickonoski) Wisenbaugh. She married James C. Schumacher on October 8, 1955 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death in February of 2004. Lillian was a 1952 graduate of Harbor Beach High School. She was the manager of the Harbor Beach Community Credit Union for over 20 years before retiring in 2012. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Holy Name of Mary Parish in Harbor Beach where she was the former bookkeeper. Lillian was a member and former officer of the Harbor Beach American Legion Auxiliary, Harbor Beach Women’s Club Association and the Red Hats Society. Lillian enjoyed puzzles and traveling with family.

Preceding her in death were her husband Elmer R. Herman, 3 sisters, one an un-named baby girl, Viola (Lloyd) Burkholder, El Donna (Harold) Parsell and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Wolfe and Carl Parsell.

Biography

Eileen M. (Weidman) Herman, 90, long time resident of both Pigeon and Elkton, died peacefully on Thursday morning, December 7th, in the long-term care of Scheuer Hospital. She was born November 8, 1927 in Pigeon to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley and Emma (Staehli) Weidman. On December 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Elmer Herman at her parent's home in Winsor Twp. They took over the operation of the Herman family farm, north of Elkton. While farming with Elmer and raising a family, Eileen also painted and wallpapered in a business with her sister, Betty Parsell. After Elmer’s death, Eileen moved back to Pigeon. Eileen was a member of the Elkton Missionary Church where she taught Sunday School, Junior Church, coached Bible Quiz teams and ministered to the Church’s children to bring life to the Bible through stories and songs.

She was born on May 11, 1935, in Argyle, to the late Norman and Angeline (Schroeder) Swartz. Lylan and Albert Kucharczyk were united in marriage on October 2, 1954 in He preceded her in death on October 17, 2002. Lylan was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, her garden, flowers, and being with her grandchildren.

Denise Marie Tschirhart Hunt, age 65, earned her angel wings on December 7, 2017 in Oklahoma after a short illness. Denise was born on January 23, 1952 in Bad Axe or Marvin and Iva McGeachy Tschirhart of Ubly. Denise graduated from Ubly High School in 1970 then attended Saginaw Business School. She worked at Hamill Manufacturing of Ubly and Kmart of Bad Axe. Denise resided in Shawnee OK where she was an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and worked at Kmart and Lowe's. She loved spending time with her family especially her children, grandchildren, church family, and friends. Denise enjoyed her garden, old movies, Elvis and horses.

Virginia B. Ackerman, 97, a lifelong Elkton resident, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Pigeon. Virginia was born August 28, 1920 in Pigeon to the late Ernest and Anna (Jahr) Tschumi. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1937 and then attended Central Michigan University. She married George Ackerman on July 22, 1939 at her parent’s home in Elkton; he preceded her in death March 4, 2000. She was an active longtime member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and a dedicated homemaker.

Biography

Scyrian “Gene” Gainor, age 95, of Bad Axe, passed away with his family by his side on Monday December 4, 2017. Gene was born in Harbor Beach on August 1, 1922, son of the late Scyrian and Agnes (Moriarity) Gainor. He married Dorothy Koss and she proceeded him in death. He married Nancy (Schmidt) Arnott in September of 1961. Gene was raised and work on the family farm in Bloomfield Twp in Huron County until 1957 when he became the owner and operator of Gainor's Meat Packing in Bad Axe, MI. He worked side by side with his wife and children for 60 years in the family business. Gene was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. He dedicated himself to his family and enjoyed meeting new people who quickly became friends.

Margaret retired from Macomb County and moved to Huron County. While with Macomb County, she was an active Union Representative/Steward/ Member of AFCSME 25 Negotiations Team. Margaret enjoyed spending time crocheting, knitting, fishing, camping, yardwork and playing cards. She also spent time volunteering at Huron Medical Center. She was an active supporter of the North Huron Athletic Teams; football, baseball, softball, and basketball. She had great pleasure meeting with parents, and Grandparents who made her feel special allowing her to share in their joy. Memorials may be given to the North Huron Athletic Department.

Joshua Nicholas Peyerk, age 32, of Filion, passed away on November 30, 2017. Joshua was born in Bad Axe on November 16, 1985, son of Thomas and Kimberly (Azar) Peyerk. Joshua enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, four wheelers, snowmobiles and driving his Lincoln with speakers bumping. He also liked the beach, taking pictures of clouds, cooking and helping his neighbor Dan Lasceski with farm work. Of course, Joshy P. had a lot of fun making videos and Snapchats to entertain all his friends and family. He enjoyed making people smile and laugh. He gave great hugs as well.
