She was preceded in death by her five brothers: Steve, Stanley, Edward, Joseph and Daniel Pluta; three sisters: Mary Mironuk, Bertha Wiech, Stella Ludwing; and great grandson, William Gainforth.

Biography

Helen Herman, age 91, of Sebewaing, passed away at her home on Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born September 19, 1922 in Sheridan Township, Huron County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants, the late Peter and Mary Pluta. She married Edgar Herman in 1939. Helen worked at Sportman’s Bar in Sebewaing and at Scenic Convalescent Home in Pigeon. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing where she enjoyed helping with funeral luncheons. Her greatest joy has always been being with and helping her family. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, refinishing furniture, painting, varnishing, gardening, canning and cooking Polish foods.

Biography

Mrs. Ruth R. Krug, 83 of Ubly, passed away Thursday morning, May 29, 2014 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on August 23, 1930 in Ubly to the late Roman and Pauline (Pollum) Briolat. She married Richard Krug on May 15, 1954 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked various jobs in Warren and was a Parapro with the Macomb ISD for nine years. She was a parishioner at St. Martin De Porres Church in Warren for 29 years. Ruth and Richard moved to Ubly in 1991. She was a parishioner at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church in Ubly and an honorary member of the St. John Christian Mothers. Ruth enjoyed golf, bowling, travelling, camping and trips to the casino.

Biography

David was born November 8, 1936 in Dearborn to the late Andrew and Sara (Crawford) Stewart. He graduated from Dearborn High School in 1954. On February 16, 1963 he married Sally Trego at the Dearborn E.U.B. Church. She preceded him in death on November 1, 2012. Together with his wife, they settled in Dearborn and raised their family there. He worked at Ford Motor Company for 37 years, and was an active member and past-President of the Dearborn Kiwanis Club. In 1998 Dave and Sally moved to Caseville, and Dave remained active with Kiwanis and by supporting Sally's work with the local Chamber of Commerce.

Shirley A. Butch, 78, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 with her family by her side She was born May 19, 1936 the daughter of the late Clayton and Agnes (Mousseau) Thompson in Mead Township. She and Melvin L Butch were married in St. Felix Catholic Church on October 20, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1996. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. Shirley and Melvin owned and operated Butch’s Restaurant in Kinde, and Shirley cooked at North Huron Schools for many years. She was a Senior Meal Sight manager at the Human Development Commission in Bad Axe, Michigan. She and her husband were foster parents to 26 foster Children. She enjoyed cooking, loved flowers and gardening and valued her faith and her family.

Willidean “Deane” Corbishley, age 83, of Bad Axe, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on August 12, 1930 in Hume Township, daughter of the late Frederick Thomas and Lydia (Stewart) Willard. She married Charles R. Corbishley on March 21, 1952 in Sandusky, MI. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2013. Deane was a manager and a seamstress for over 60 years at Corbishley’s Menswear in Bad Axe. She had been a member of the Bad Axe Womens Club, a past boy scout leader, an amateur ham radio operator, and served as a board member for the Bad Axe Library, where she had been instrumental in the planning and building of the current Bad Axe Library.

Joyce Willard, age 82, of Port Austin and formerly of Port Huron died May 24, 2014 in Blue Water Hospice Home after a short illness. She was born February 29, 1932 in San Luis Obispo, California and was raised in Cass City, Michigan. She lived and worked in Port Huron for over 30 years, and for the past 25 years in Port Austin. She married Hal Willard on June 27, 1953 in Cass City. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1968. Joyce worked as a school secretary for many years at Central High School, Woodrow Wilson, and Port Huron Northern. When her children were young, she established the Lakeport School Library and in retirement, enjoyed working at the Port Austin Twp. Library. She was Treasurer of the Broken Rocks Association in Port Austin for many years. She enjoyed living on Lake Huron. Joyce always welcomed friends, family and anyone who wanted to stop by to talk and enjoy her view. She was widely known for being strong, intelligent, independent, loving and generous.

Mrs. Madelyn Schrader, 87 of Ubly, joined her loved ones in God’s heavenly kingdom on May 22, 2014 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe. Madelyn was born on January 23, 1927 in Sandusky to the late Jacob and Lena (Rump) Frederick. She married Fernand Beaudin on April 22, 1946 in Bad Axe with whom she had three sons, Ken, John and Frederick “Joe” Beaudin. She married Verne Schrader on August 8, 1974 in Port Austin. He preceded her in death January 18, 1980. Madelyn was a 1945 graduate of Bad Axe High School. She worked at Huron Memorial Hospital for many years as the manager of the medical transcription department. Madelyn was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church of Ubly and an Honorary Christian Mother. She was a member of the Ubly Community Club and performed in the Ubly Alabama Jubilees. She enjoyed reading, bowling, playing cards and traveling. She was an avid University of Michigan football fan. Her most favorite time was spent at her summer home up in Port Austin with her family and friends.

She was born on June 8th, 1955 in Flint, daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Lacey) Ackley. She married Christopher Bachman on May 22nd, 1976 in Flint. Suzie enjoyed doing crafts, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She especially liked being with her grandchildren.

Biography

Willis Russell Farnum, age 88 of Pigeon, died peacefully on May 21, 2014 at his home at Rose Garden Assisted Living, while under hospice care. He was born September 27, 1925 in Owendale, and was the only child of the late John “Jack” and Daisy (Smith) Farnum. Willis graduated from Owendale High School in 1941, after which he served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army for four years during WWII. He was a very proud veteran, and was a member of the VFW Post 2236 in Pigeon. Upon discharge from the service, he returned to Owendale and was employed there at Automotive Industries as a foreman. On June 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to Jessie June Winchester at Gagetown, Michigan, and they have celebrated almost 64 years of marriage. Willis and June made their home in Owendale until moving to the Rose Garden in 2011 due to health reasons. Willis and his father operated the Peoples Oil & Gas Shell station in Owendale, where he was always the “friendly fuel oil delivery man” to many families and homes. Upon the closing of the service station he was employed at Marlette Homes until their closing. He then became the first bus driver for the newly established Thumb Area Transit in 1981, where he was employed until his retirement in 1986. He proudly served as past Mayor and a member of the Council for the Village of Owendale, and also as a member of the Fire Department for 50 years. Willis enjoyed bowling on a team for many years, playing his guitar and harmonica, and singing. He attended Elkton Missionary Church.

Jadie "Jadis" Edward Periso, Sr., 91, of Cass City, died following a short illness Monday, May 19, 2014 in his home surrounded by family. He was born August 13, 1922 in Argyle, Michigan to William and Flora (Litner) Periso. Jadie attended the Deford Elementary School. Leaving school at a young age he joined the work force. Jadie later joined the US Army, serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. Following his military service he worked for Marlette Trailer Factory. He then worked for Sargents Road Construction in Saginaw retiring after many years. Jadie worked part time buying and selling homes and also part time topping sugar beets for McNeil Farms of Unionville. He was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wilmot. He was a former Masonic Temple member, Shriners member and Caro Moose Lodge member. Jadie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and camping. Jadie wasn't your typical old person, he often acted like a younger person. He was very colorful and had a good sense of humor.

Biography

George received his GED from Owen-Gage High School. He served in the U.S. Army as peacekeeping and recovery following World War II in Germany during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of St. Agatha Catholic Church and a member of the Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892. George was very proud of his country and was a very active member of Cass City VFW Post #3644. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross working many blood draws. He enjoyed hunting and working on his property, landscaping, and caring for his yard and fruit trees.

Biography

Eleanor J. Burzynski, 85, of Caseville died May 18, 2014 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Eleanor was born June 25, 1928 in Detroit to the late Thomas and Harriet (Bokuniewicz) Welker. She graduated from St. Casimir High School in 1946. On June 18, 1949 she married Joseph Burzynski at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Detroit. They moved to Caseville in 1992 from Warren. Together they enjoyed spending winters in Vero Beach, Florida. She had an artistic talent in both painting and music, as well as sewing.

Biography

RAYMOND E. EMMING, age 81 of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at Huron Medical Center of Bad Axe. He was born on August 11, 1932 in Sherman Township to the late Bernard and Alma (Tenbusch) Emming. Ray farmed with his parents and brothers until entering the US Army in January of 1954 ( CPL Raymond B. Emming). Ray served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 serving in the Korean Conflict. He and Patricia Armstead were united in marriage on April 28, 1956 in Harbor Beach. Ray and Pat then moved to their farm and farmed for ten years. They then purchased the Farmers Tavern in Ruth, which they owned and operated for 26 years. During that time Ray drove the Ruth School Bus, managed the Bad Axe Grain Elevator until it closed, then he went back to work at the Ruth Farmers Elevator. Ray was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, and the American Legion Post of Harbor Beach.

Thelma Aileen Beadle, 84, of Caseville, died May 15, 2014 at Cascades Senior Living in Midland. Thelma was born September 18, 1929 in Bay City to the late William and Marie (Threehouse) Rooker. She married Francis R. Beadle on August 15, 1948 at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. Francis preceded her in death on September 9, 2009. They settled in the Detroit area and raised their family, then in 1971 they moved to Hillman where they owned and operated the Avalon Bar. They moved to Caseville in 1979. Thelma was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a past-president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and a former religious education teacher. She loved working with and spending time with children.

Biography

Janice F. Moore, 81, of Cass City, died following a short illness, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was the only child born November 30, 1932 in Deckerville to Wesley Albert and Naomi Charlotte (Pearson) Dean. She married Donald Maurice Moore July 29, 1950 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Palms. He died February 25, 2002. Janice filled her life with music. After taking a music correspondent course she gave lessons to many students in the Thumb area. She taught piano, organ, accordion and voice. Janice taught in area schools, including Port Hope Schools and in homes. Many years ago she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palms where she served as church organist for over 25 years. Along with her son, Duane, Janice played in a band for many area events. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City. Janice enjoyed canning and camping especially at Lighthouse Park in Port Hope.

Biography

Larry Lyn Pangborn, age 51, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on November 9, 1962 in Bad Axe, son of Lyn and Sharon (Martin) Pangborn. Larry was a member of the Bad Axe High School Class of 1981 and received his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Central Michigan University. He was an avid sports fan, he grew up playing in the Little League, and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball at Bad Axe High School. After working in the finance field, Larry started Pangborn Properties, moving into the rental and construction business. He most recently resided in Grand Rapids to be closer to family and to continue in the construction trade.

Earl worked as a carpenter for many years. He and Barbara Whitaker were united in marriage on November 26, 1996 in Bad Axe. Earl served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and the outdoors.

Rose was born on November 20, 1927 in Harbor Beach to the late Frank and Alice (Butchkowski) Mazure. Rose and Gordon Cooper were united in marriage on November 23, 1949 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2008. Rose was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach, a member of the Red Hat Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Port Hope Retirees and the Harbor Beach Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing bingo, and visiting with friends and family.

Biography

Philip M. Fisher, 61 of Pinnebog died Sunday afternoon, May 11, at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant after a long battle with Nero endocrine cancer. He was born June 15, 1952 in Bad Axe to the late John and Helen (McIlhargie) Fisher. Phil grew up in the Pinnebog area and was a 1970 graduate of North Huron High School. After high school Phil served two years in the US Army during the Vietnam era returning home in 1973. On November 6, 1976, he was united in marriage to Sharon L. Pedler at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog, where they were faithful members. Phil had been employed at J O Wurst in Berne for 17 years as a welder retiring in 2012 for health reasons. Anyone who knew Phil, knew him to be an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were a big part of his life, which he shared with many. He enjoyed everything about being outside. Whether it was gardening, taking walks or just sitting in his lawn chair listening to the songbirds, he was truly happiest there. Another love of his life was eating. He was married to a wonderful cook who knew the way to his heart. Phil shared so many good times with friends and family over a good meal and a few beers. We will not soon forget the laughter he brought to us all.

He was born on January 17, 1929 in Bad Axe, son of the late Carl and Irene (Near) McKnight. He married Eva Britt on November 5, 1946 in Bad Axe. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2010.

Biography

Betty Ann Schuetz, 89, of Caseville, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas while under hospice care at her son's home. Betty was born in Peru, Indiana on February 18, 1925 to the late Jacob and Mabel (Shadinger) Wagoner. She married Wilfred Schuetz on March 5, 1949 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1995. She raised her six children before returning to work as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric nursing, retiring as the Director of Nursing at Clinton Valley Center. She retired when her husband could no longer work due to WWII injuries and they moved to Caseville. She was a member of the Caseville United Methodist Church. In 2010 she moved to San Antiono, though she still spent as much time as she was able at her home in Caseville. She was a “master knitter.”
