Biography

He was born February 21, 1964 in Deckerville the first of 14 children born to Charles John and Sharon Ann (Walsh) Franzel. Gary owned Franzel Carpentry in Southeast Michigan for 9 years. He also worked for Posen Construction in Southeast Michigan. Gary was employed with Quality Wood Products in Ubly up until his passing. Gary loved the outdoors, enjoying deer hunting and fishing as well as snowmobiling, boating and riding his Harley. Gary also enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing the food he grew.

She was an active member of several local recreational clubs, enjoyed painting, day trips and other craft projects.

Betty J. Shetler, 59, of Ubly passed away at home on June 12, 2014. Betty was born in Pigeon on June 14, 1954 to Robert & Joyce (DeGrow) Smith. She married John Shetler in August 1987. Betty attended Ubly United Methodist Church. She was a teacher and loved reading, walking and all kinds of animals. Betty was an associate Chaplin for the Huron County Jail for many years and part of the Forgotten Man Ministries as well as Moms in Touch.

Terry Richard Bambach, 75, passed away on June 11, 2014 at his home in Port Austin Township. Terry was born on March 25, 1939 in Pinnebog to the late John and Lillian (Power) Bambach. He was married to Shirley Nelson on August 19, 1961. Terry served in the U.S. Navy from April 1956 to April 1960. He was a member of the American Legion Club in Port Austin, Moose Lodge and the VFW Auxiliary. He was employed at Wil-le Farms in Bad Axe. Terry loved to cook, hunt for deer, listen to Polka music and pull floats in parades down in Florida.

Mrs. Gertrude C. Glaza, 98 years young and lifelong resident of Ubly, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Willow Tree Haven Home in Gagetown. Gertrude was born on August 25, 1915 in Ubly to the late Roman and Pauline (Pollum) Briolat. She married Stanley Glaza on October 15, 1935 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1996. Gertrude was a graduate of the Proctor Country School. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. Gertrude was a former officer and active member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle #608 for over 50 years. She enjoyed trips to northern Michigan, quilting, needle work and china painting. Gertrude especially enjoyed playing any kind of card games and entertaining, which usually went hand in hand. Gertrude cherished anytime spent with her loving family and friends.

Jeanette was born on December 10, 1934 in Harbor Beach to the late Walter and Rose (Wodwaska) Goniwiecha. Jeanette attended Duda Elementary School and was a 1953 graduate of Harbor Beach Community Schools. She worked on the family farm and cooked for many weddings in the area. Jeanette was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Jeanette enjoyed gardening, baking, being outdoors and visiting with family and friends.

He was born on July 9, 2010 in Bad Axe, son of Matthew and Vicki (McCrea) Klosowski. Lucas enjoyed being on the farm and taking care of the animals. He wanted to be a paramedic and a farmer when he grew up.

NEOMA JEAN LONG, age 89 of Harbor Beach passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Lakeview Extended Care and Rehab Center of the Harbor Beach Community Hospital. She was born on September 22, 1924 to the late George and Eva (Fleming) Kaufman. She and Robert Long were united in marriage in 1942. Neoma graduated from Port Hope School in 1942. She was employed at Midwest Rubber in Deckerville for 16 years. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, good music and her favorite activity was watching the Detroit Tigers. Neoma was a confirmed member of the Port Hope St. John Lutheran Church and later the Zion Lutheran Church of Harbor Beach.

Mr. Joseph B. Rutkowski, of Ubly, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Bay Special Care Hospital. He was born August 23, 1928 in Ubly to the late Albert and Mary (Wrubel) Rutkowski. He married Maxine Wasielewski on May 21, 1955 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Joseph was a graduate of a country school. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed at the Plymouth Chrysler plant for a few years, Carmet for 29 years before retiring in 1993. He also worked at Evans Products in Gagetown for 8 years. Joseph was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was a member of the Men’s Club for 50 years. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, playing cards, especially euchre and pinochle, and trips to Northern Michigan.

Don served in the U.S. Army. He worked for General Motors in Flint, Active Industries in Elkton and Cass City Manufacturing before his job as a crane operator for Sebewaing Industries, which he held for 27 years. Don also was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Farm Bureau, and Caro American Legion Post #7. He was a former trustee on the Elkland Township Board for eight years. Don served as Presidnet for the North Port Huron District of United Methodist men's group for eight years. He was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church and past member of the Cass City Laymen's Club. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Don worked as a volunteer at Tendercare Nursing Facility, a job he enjoyed very much.

Randy James Dutcher, 57, of Pigeon died Friday, June 6, 2014 at his home while under hospice care. Randy was born June 12, 1956 in Sandusky to the late Roland and Doris (Casebier) Dutcher. After high school he moved from Sebewaing to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. There he worked as both a commercial fisherman and a heavy equipment operator for the city of Pascagoula. He married Pamela Dressler of Sebewaing on November 21, 1999 in Mississippi. They returned to Pigeon in 2004. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was a talented woodworker, but his greatest love was fishing: sport fishing but also fishing for souls by spreading God’s word.

Danny will be sadly missed by his sister, Carole (Don) Inda of Port Austin, his brother, Shawn McGuire of Port Austin, a sister in law, Monica McGuire of Highland, nieces Venessa (Joseph) Knoblock of Ionia, Denise McGuire of Highland, Danielle (Jon) Moreira of Nashua, NH, and Charlotte Inda of Port Austin, a nephew, Don (Cassie) Inda of Prattville, AL, great-nieces Caroline and Alexis Knoblock, and great nephews Jack and Dylan Inda. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Tom McGuire.

Biography

James Daniel (Danny) McGuire, 65, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Huron Medical Center following a short battle with lung cancer. Danny was born on October 21, 1948, in Bad Axe, MI, to Caroline (nee` Krull) and James (Mickey) McGuire. Danny lived his whole life in Port Austin. He loved to play softball, go to the casino, and solve the world’s problems with his friends at the Stock Pot and Joe’s Pizzeria. Danny was a kind, gentle soul who loved children and animals. Danny worked in the family masonry business at his father’s side for many years. He was a skilled mason with a tireless work ethic. Later, Danny worked with his friends Eldie and Arnie cutting trees.

Preceding her in death was grandson, Jay Richmond.

Biography

Evelyn June Richmond, nee Krohn, 83, long time McKinley Township dairy farmer, died rather suddenly at home early Wednesday morning, June 4. Evelyn was born June 24, 1930 in Troy, the daughter of the late Carl R. and Rose M. (Stein) Krohn Sr. She was baptized as a child of God on July 3, 1930 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Birmingham. During her early years she grew up and attended the elementary school in Troy while her dad worked at Ford Motor Company. When Evelyn was 10 years old her family moved to Elkton where her mom and dad bought a farm and started the Elkton Nursery. As a child she learned how to work hard helping with the family business hoeing, weeding and watering. On June 4, 1944, she was confirmed in her Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. She finished school in Elkton, and was part of the class of 1948. On February 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to the John C. Richmond Sr. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkton. For years Evelyn and John managed the John C. Richmond & Sons’ Dairy Farm until John predeceased her in 2007. Since that time she has partnered with her two sons, James & Keith in operating their farms. Evelyn was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Berne (Pigeon). She loved her Lord and her family, making sure that all her children had an early Christian education. She thoroughly enjoyed her pastor’s weekly Bible Class. Evelyn loved working with her husband on the farm, milking cows, tending her garden and flowers, and cooking and baking for her family and enjoyed shopping with her daughters. She was a member of the Michigan Dairy Association and a past member of the Lucky 50 Farm Bureau Group. She lived for her loving husband of 59 years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.

Susan A. Reehl, age 63 of Bad Axe, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on May 17, 1951 in Arizona, daughter of the late Clair and Anna (DeChane) Raftery. She married Gary Reehl on August 18, 1984 in Bad Axe. Sue enjoyed shopping, walking, bowling and spending time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren.

Mr. Joseph J. Hudo, 88 of Rapson and formerly of Tempe, Ariz. Passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at McLaren Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City after a short illness. Joseph was born on March 19, 1926 in Hamtramck to John and Ceceilia (Hoffman) Hudo. Joseph was a graduate of Bloomfield #7 Elementary School in Rapson and received his G.E.D. He resided in Rapson since 1936.and Tempe, AZ for 25 years. Joseph was employed as a die setter for General Motors for 36 1/2 years at the Chevrolet Gear and Axel Plant on 9 Mile and Mound before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Bad Axe and Sandusky Senior Dance Clubs. Joseph was also a member of the Rapson Sportsman Club since it started. He was a former member of the Warren Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed trips to the casinos, playing bingo and cards, and gardening. He also enjoyed the Detroit Tigers.

Biography

Ralph Pascuzzi, age 79, of Owendale, formerly of Bay City, passed away on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. He was born on August 22nd, 1934 in Virginville, West Virginia, son of the late Anthony and Myrtle (Davis) Pascuzzi. He married Rosemary Rooker on December 9th, 1983 in Bay City. Ralph retired from GM, where he worked for 36 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed vacationing at cabins at various lakes. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Born in Caseville on August 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Walter) Frei and attended Caseville Public School. On September 8, 1935 she was married to William G. Deering in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1976. Helen worked at General Cable Corporation in Cass City and retired after 35 years of employment. She was a homemaker and a kind and gentle woman who dearly loved her family. She was a very good cook. She enjoyed doing yard work and walking. Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Pigeon.

Thomas H. Guitar, age 68 of Washington Township, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at Henry Ford Macomb Medical Facility. He was born on August 12, 1945 in Harbor Beach to the late Harold and Mary (Noble) Guitar. Tom served in the US Navy during Vietnam. Tom worked as a warehouse manager in the Food Service Industry for over 25 years. He enjoyed golfing, being with his grandchildren, reading, vacationing by Lake Superior, and was an avid Sports Fan.

Mr. Gregory A. Hanselman, 61 of Sandusky, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence. Gregory was born on December 14, 1952 in Harbor Beach to Marilyn (Geyer) Hanselman Lautner and the late Melvin Hanselman. Gregory was a 1971 graduate of Ubly High School. He attended Oakland University for one year and Rets Electronic School for two years. He was employed at K-Mart, Dots and Jensen Audio Company. Gregory organized and performed for the bands Bottom Line, Emperor’s and Lakeshore Band. He enjoyed music, camping, boating and family functions.

Helen Herman, age 91, of Sebewaing, passed away at her home on Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born September 19, 1922 in Sheridan Township, Huron County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants, the late Peter and Mary Pluta. She married Edgar Herman in 1939. Helen worked at Sportman’s Bar in Sebewaing and at Scenic Convalescent Home in Pigeon. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sebewaing where she enjoyed helping with funeral luncheons. Her greatest joy has always been being with and helping her family. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, refinishing furniture, painting, varnishing, gardening, canning and cooking Polish foods.
