Jenny M. Koroleski, 90, of Port Austin, Michigan died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Huron Medical Care Facility. She was born September 8, 1922 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late John and Eve (Mylnarczyk) Pawekzyke. She and Ralphael Koroleski were married in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan, on May 25, 1957. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2011. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Port Austin. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and the Detroit Tigers.

Laura F. Neuman, age 100, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. She was born April 5, 1912 at home in Sebewaing Twp. to the late Charles and Katherine (Gettel) Kundinger. In May 1926 she was confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Bach. On August 28, 1934 she married Arnold Neuman. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1984. She enjoyed working on the family farm, quilting, flower gardening and crafting.

Biography

Kenneth J. Gay, age 77, resident of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, with his family by his side, at the Huron Medical Center while under the care of Advantage Hospice. He was born April 26, 1935 in Kinde to the late Alfred and Pearl (Robinson) Gay. Ken and Berneice Klee were united in marriage on April 30, 1950 at St. Felix Catholic church near Pinnebog. He was a graduate of Kinde High School and served two years in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Ferris State University. Ken retired from Independent Bank as Vice President Cashier. After retirement, he also served as Treasurer for the City of Bad Axe for a number of years. He was a longtime member of Verona Hills Golf Club and the Bad Axe Rotary. He served as past president for both organizations. Ken was an avid sports fan.

Elmer was preceded in death by his siblings: Clarence (Isabelle) Schroeder, Frank (Marie) Schroeder, Lawrence (Alma) Schroeder, Angeline (Norman) Swartz, Sabina (Anthony) Stacer, Lucille (Leo) Geiger, and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack Nash, Henry Heilig, Floyd Booms, Evelyn Zmich, William Roberts and Louis Roberts. ELMER EDWARD SCHROEDER, age 88 of Harbor Beach, passed away Friday, March 08, 2013 at his home under hospice care with his family at his side. He was born on December 6, 1924 in Harbor Beach to the late Edward and Mary (Siemen) Schroeder. Elmer and Dorothy Roberts were united in marriage on November 23, 1946 in Ruth, she preceded her in death on September 28, 2005. Elmer farmed on the family farm his whole life, he also worked at Hercules Manufacturing for a short time. Elmer enjoyed spending his time working on the farm, playing cards, and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was born, raised and died all on the same farm. Elmer was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena.

Terri F. Tarzwell Klee, 47 of Deckerville passed away suddenly on March 9, 2013 due to a snowmobile accident. Terri was born on August 12, 1965 in Sandusky to Frank Jr. and Ruth (Meredith) Klee Terri was a 1984 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked at Numatics Inc. in Sandusky for 15 years. Terri enjoyed flowers, gardening, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and shopping. She loved to cook. She loved animals, but her passion was with cats and dogs. Terri was a great mother and good friend to many.

Al is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Anna Philp, an infant son Paul Alfred and two sisters, Norma Dommer and Eleanor Witte.

Alfred J. Philp, age 86, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, surrounded by his family. Al was born January 19, 1927 in Elkton, Michigan the son of Alfred and Anna (Shaw) Philp. He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1944. He was stationed in Italy with the United States Army at the close of WWII. He married Katherine Tyrell on November 15, 1952 in Sandusky. He was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation for 43 years, retiring in 1990. Al enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an active member of the Sandusky Presbyterian Church, and he served his community as a member of the Sandusky Library Board for 35 years, and on the Planning Commission and Board of Review for the City of Sandusky.

Lyman Smith “Smitty”, age 85, resident of Verona Township, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Meadow Lanes Assisted Living. He was born October 19, 1927 in Elkton to the late Raymond and Mary (Soper) Smith. Lyman and Marilyn Collison were united in marriage in 1976. He attended the Stanton Rural School. He was employed as a carpenter and built houses in Saginaw, before becoming a truck driver and delivered Pepsi and Little Debbie Products. Smitty retired from Smith Distributing after 22 years of employment. He was a member of the Upper Thumb Men’s Bowling Association and Meals on Wheels. He was a Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed playing bingo.

Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. Son-in-law Rod Brewer has preceded her in death. Thank you Kay (Tom) Viers, Noreen (Rod) Tietz, Carol (Jim) Stein and family, and Susanna Hawley Allen for all the memories, love, joy and laughter you shared with her throughout her life. Biography

Margaret Ann (Richmond) Schwalm passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at Lynwood Manor Nursing Home in Adrian, where she had been a resident since October, 2010. Margaret Ann was born February 8, 1929 to Royal and Evelyn (Schember) Richmond. They and two younger siblings, Barbara and James, preceded her in death. Margaret Ann married Basil J. Schwalm in Pigeon on August 30, 1951, and they were married almost 30 years until his death in 1981. Being a child of the depression, Margaret Ann began working at age 11. She had many odd jobs that kept her busy throughout her childhood and teenage years. During her married life, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, home canning and attending her children's school activities. Margaret Ann's talent for crocheting was truly a gift. She loved gifting family and friends with crocheted afghans, doilies, dolls, toys, and other items. Her homemade fudge chocolate sheet cake and her scalloped potatoes are still talked about in the family as being of the world's best. Margaret Ann was also a bookworm-a passion which she passed on to her three children. After Basil's death, Margaret Ann worked in the home health care field until retiring in 1993. She enjoyed her retirement attending grandchildren's activities, vacationing and watching game shows. One special vacation was when she, daughter Janice, son-in-law Rod, five dogs and a motor home traveled to Copper Harbor. She said it was a vacation she would always remember, especially the motor home on the narrow roads! In 2007 she moved to Weston and lived with daughter Janice and son-in-law Rodney and their pack of dogs. The dogs held a special place in Margaret Ann's heart.

Christena (Nusz) Kruger, age 98, of Sebewaing, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Vadavilla AFC Home. She was born March 17, 1914 in Cookston, Oklahoma to the late James and Esther (McFarland) Swimmer. She married Aaron Nusz on January 5, 1930 in Geary, Oklahoma. On May 1964, she married Arthur Kruger in Caro, MI. They both preceded her in death. Christena worked at Sebewaing Industries for 20 years as a press operator from 1944 to 1964. She enjoyed quilting and playing euchre. She was the oldest member at Trinity United Methodist Church, the Women’s Club (Ladies Aid), and the Sebewaing Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Hanson; sisters-in-law, Alice Hanson, Mary Wisneski, Karen Hanson and Carol Ahearn; father and mother in-law, Walter and Lottie (Baranski) Wisneski. Dawn Wisneski, 67, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013 with her family at her side at the Huron County Medical Care Facility after a short illness. Dawn was born on October 19, 1945 in Bad Axe, MI to the late Glen and Glendora (Avery) Hanson. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother and friend of many-Dawn will be missed greatly. She had an immense love of her husband and family and enjoyed garage sales, cooking and baking, travel, and gardening. She graduated from Bad Axe High School, Class of 1964. Dawn was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of Kinde and a member of its Altar Sodality. Prior to retiring, she was employed at several companies including Hamill Manufacturing and General Cable.

Rosemary Coulter, 82, resident of Port Hope, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at home with family by her side. She was born December 2, 1930 in Metamora, MI to the late Harold and Irma (Kurtz) Andress. She was united in marriage to Bernard Coulter on July 15, 1949 at the Metamora Congregational Church. No words can describe the loss of our mom, grandma, sister and friend. She lived a full happy life and loved her family more than anything, except for maybe euchre and the Detroit Tigers. She had a never ending sense of humor and loved to be the center of attention. No one disliked Rose and if they did they had a character flaw and she would be the first one to tell you that. The legacy Rosemary and Bernard s left behind to their family is laughter, love and the value of family. She will be greatly missed but greatfully welcomed back into the arms of her husband Ben, father, Harold and mother, Irma, sisters, Elaine and Cathy. May your laughter fill Heaven’s Gates. Rosemary was a member of the Port Hope United Methodist Church. She proudly served as President of the Port Hope Seniors and was also a member of the Harbor Beach Seniors. She enjoyed playing euchre and canasta, flower gardening and bowling. Rosemary was an office manager at the Bad Axe K-mart Store, before retiring after 23 years.

Waldo B. Sting, age 96, of Unionville, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. He was born in Sebewaing on December 29, 1916 to the late Theodore J. & Rosina C. (Schweitzer) Sting. On August 28, 1943 he married Anna (Muelrath) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2007. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, caring for his fruit trees, traveling, square dancing, cooking and baking. Waldo was a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the Bach/Sebewaing area serving on numerous boards. He farmed his entire life and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Jo Ufford, 73, of Caseville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon. Mary Jo was born February 3, 1940 in Grosse Pointe to the late Harold and Irmo (Weber) Sill. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1958. On September 12, 1959 she married Fredrick J. Ufford at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2011. They raised their family in Detroit before moving to Caseville in 1989. She was a member of the Caseville Eagles Auxiliary, Retirement Club, St. Roch, and an officer with the Library Club.

Michael A. Zagata, age 93, of Sebewaing, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe. He was born September 4, 1919 in Sebewaing, the son of the late Andrew M. & Anna M (Joskio) Zagata. He was honorably discharged from the United States Airforce in September 1943. On November 24, 1945 he married Eloise Heberly in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2004. Michael was a lifetime member of the Sebewaing American Legion Post #293, a member of the Sebewaing Lions Club, former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Octagon Barn supporter, and committee member of the Sugar Festival Church Service at the park. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling.

Mrs. Diane L. (Donovan) Leppek, 63, died on Thursday morning March 21, 2013 at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, Massachusetts. She was the loving wife of Dale N. Leppek with whom she shared 42 years of marriage. Born and raised in Saugus, Mass. she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Esther (Amero) Donovan. A lifelong member of the Austin Square Baptist Church, Mrs. Leppek was very involved in many aspects of the church including the Pioneer Club and the Birthday Ladies Club. She also enjoyed working with children at the Lynn YMCA.

She was born on May 18, 1917 to the late George & Josephine (Sharon) Laskey. Grace and William White were united in marriage on May 6, 1939 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2005. Grace was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and was a Girl and Cub Scouts Leader. Grace was the OLLH Church Secretary and was an avid Bingo player, and enjoyed the help from her bingo ladies around her. She enjoyed swimming, golfing and tennis.

Mr. Elmer Lamke, 84 of Ubly passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Huron Medical Center after a short illness. Elmer was born on July 14, 1928 in Parisville to the late Lawrence and Martha (O’Parka) Lamke. He married Beatrice (Danielski)(Jaskowski) Lamke on November 21, 1980 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2003. Elmer was a graduate of the Maurer Country School. He lived in the Detroit area from 1950-1970. During those years, he was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked at Midland Steel for a few years before finishing out his employment at Uniroyal Tire in Detroit as a stock clerk. In 1970 he returned to the thumb area and resided in Ubly where he ran the Brown House and Chatter Box restaurants for many years while working as a security guard at Hamill Manufacturing in Ubly. He was a current parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Elmer loved to repair small engines, fishing, gardening, and deer hunting.

She was born March 13, 1926 in Detroit to late John and Florence Radtke. On October 26, 1946 she married Carl H. Wisniewski in Detroit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a homemaker and baked and decorated wedding cakes. After retirement she moved to Caseville and enjoyed traveling to visit her family.
