Stella was preceded in death by six sisters, Ann Lewis, Mary Buczek, Frances Przepiora, infants, Josephine, Sophie and Jenny; three brothers, Walter and Joseph Buczek and infant John; one son-in-law, Andy Baranski.

Biography

Mrs. Stella “Stephanie” Francis Micklash, 98 of Parisville, passed away Thursday evening February 14, 2013 with her family by her side at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe after a short illness. Stella was born July 3, 1914 in Detroit to the late Ignatz and Julia (Kandol) Buczek. She married Peter L. Micklash Jr. on June 9, 1934 at St. Mary Catholic Church on Nine Mile in Pinconning. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1983. Stella attended a country school. She farmed with her husband most of her life. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville and was a member of the polish choir and the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. Stella was also a member of the League of Catholic Women. She was a member of both the Bad Axe and Ubly Senior Citizens. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, polka music and visiting the casinos.

Bob G. Rees, 77, of Cass City, formerly of St. Clair Shores and Lexington, died following a short illness Friday, February 15, 2013 in his home. He was born January 20, 1936 in Barbourville, KY to Benjamin Franklin and Rosa Catherine (Helton) Rees. He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Hojnocki April 23, 1959 in Roseville. Bob was a self-employed die maker. He was the owner of Superior Steel Ruel Die in Detroit. Bob loved his work. He was always working and inventing things. He was a talented innovator and could repair anything. Bob was a member of the former Masonic Acanthus #558 F & AM chapter in Grosse Pointe Woods. He enjoyed camping with his family and spending time at the lake with his family and friends.

Biography

Kin L. Geilhart age 57, of Mayville died Sunday evening, February 17, from injuries received in an auto accident. He was born June 30, 1955 in Detroit to the late Jimmie and Iris (Bitnar) Geilhart. Kin and his family moved to Caro when he was young, he graduated from Caro High School in 1974. That same year, he went to Alaska to work on the Alaskan Pipeline. He later returned to Caro and in 1980, he moved to Colorado where he was a building contractor. On February 18, 1984, he was united in marriage to Terri Damm. In 2000, they went to South Dakota and returned to Colorado in 04. In 2007, he returned to the Thumb, settling near Mayville and started his own business, Kin do-it Construction.

He preceded her in death on December 20, 1987. Alberta was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Harbor Beach.

Biography

Paul George Leipprandt, 86 of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at home. Born in McKinley Township on October 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Hugo F. and Ethel (Ackerman) Leipprandt, and attended the Hayes School. On November 17, 1956 he was united in marriage to Muriel A. Ryan at Grace Bible Baptist Church, Ann Arbor and she preceded him in death on February 18, 1961. He was united in marriage to Marie A. Rothfuss at Salem EUB Church, Pigeon, on June 17, 1967; she survives him. Paul was a 1944 Pigeon High School graduate and then attended Michigan State College for two years. He was a dairy farmer throughout his lifetime. He has been a state officer with the Junior Farm Bureau. He was a member and treasurer of the Huron County Dairy Promotion Committee and served on various state and local farm and dairy committees. He was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association, also serving on many committees. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Sebewaing Mutual Fire Insurance. Paul was a member of the Hubbard Winsor Lodge No. 420 F & AM, and the Farm Bureau Lucky 50 group. He was a member of the Pigeon Historical Society and the Pigeon Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Paul was a faithful lifetime member of Hayes United Methodist Church, Pigeon, where he sang in the choir, was Sunday School Superintendent, and Administrative Board chairman for many years.

Besides her parents and her husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her sister Mary Siemen, her brothers Vincent and Br. Joseph, SJ; her sisters-in-law Geraldine Meissner and Florinda Adams; her brothers-in-law Roy Peterson, Herbert Siemen, and Earl Mausolf; Norman Sweeso, Charles Adams I, Herman Meissner, Walter Meissner, and Robert Mette.

Biography

Bernice Benedicta LaMielle Meissner, age 87, of Minden City went home to God on Sunday, Feb. 17. She was born in Harbor Beach on October 25, 1925, to Peter and Rose (Schulte) LaMielle, the fifth of six children and the youngest daughter. She graduated as valedictorian from Our Lady of Lake Huron High School in 1943. On May 6, 1944, she married the love of her life, Clarence Meissner, at OLLH Church. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2005. They farmed together on Schock Road (Delaware Township, Sanilac County) all their married life and spent twenty-five happy winters in Lake Village, Nokomis FL.

He was born on May 10, 1941 in Detroit to the late Fredrick & Anna Lucille (Shacklett) Spearman. He and Eileen King were united in marriage on October 18, 1985 in Bad Axe. He served in the US Navy. David was a storage salesman, working in the moving industry. David also was a writer, and wrote the published book: “Humpin’ for the Diamonds, A Moving Story”. He enjoyed reading and visiting the Library often.

Mrs. Norma “Kate” C. Vogel, 77 of Palms, passed away early Monday morning at her residence with her family by her side while under hospice care. She was born on March 20, 1935 to the late John R. and Sarah C. (Hardy) Handley. She married Arthur J. Vogel on May 14, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Sanilac. Kate was a 1952 graduate of Deckerville High School. She was employed at Yale Rubber form 1952 until 1970. She was a parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms and had been for 58 years. She enjoyed polka dancing, listening to music, cooking and playing cards. Kate Truly enjoyed spending time with her cherished grandchildren.

Biography

He was born June 28, 1924 in Bay Port to Arthur and H. Donna (Graves) Kuhl. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 3rd Infantry Division. He married Joy Perlene Dutcher on August 29, 1946 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Bay Port. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together. Throughout his life, George enjoyed working many jobs. Biography

Christopher S. Peters, 49, of Cass City, died unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident Friday, February 22, 2013 near Houghton Lake. He was born December 25, 1963 in Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon, to Anton and Marilyn (Osborn) Peters. He married Valerie Langenburg April 21, 1990 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City. Chris graduated from Cass City High School in 1982. He attended Michigan State University receiving an Associate's Degree in Agriculture. Chris was a crop farmer. He loved working with the earth, planting and harvesting sustained and nurtured him. He worked as an independent truck driver for many years, most recently for JW Hunt Trucking of Bad Axe. Currently Chris and his brother, Pat, were beginning a business together, Michigan Salon Services in Caro. He was a member of Cass City Gavel Club and Knights of Columbus Cass City-Gagetown Council #8892. Chris enjoyed watching sports on television but especially enjoyed watching his children play Cass City sports. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Elbow Lake, riding his snowmobile and motorcycle. Most importantly Chris loved people. He always had a smile or hug for everyone.

Onalee M. Roeber of Pigeon, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe on her 80th birthday. She was born in Pigeon on February 24, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (Carter) Wachner. She was a Pigeon High School graduate. On December 22, 1952 she was united in marriage to James R. Roeber. The couple had lived in Utica since 1962, and she returned to Pigeon in 1993. James preceded her in death on November 7, 1992. Onalee was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, enjoying reading, cooking, baking, and visiting with family and friends. She was formerly active with Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bad Axe Council 1546. He graduated from North Huron High School, Class of 1970 and attended McComb Community College. Jim was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 555. He enjoyed playing short stop position for the Rapson and Cash Cook softball teams. He had numerous hobbies including hunting, watching the Detroit Red Wings, attending antique car shows, camping, and gardening.

Kevin A. Grifka, “Frog”, 41, lifelong resident of Argyle, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. Kevin was born on February 18, 1972 in Cass City to Richard and Beverly (Darr) Grifka. Kevin was a 1990 graduate of Ubly High School. He attended Northwestern College in Ohio. He previously worked for Dale Rich Masonry and Paul Walsh Construction. He was employed at Triple J Farms for the last ten years. Kevin loved four wheelers and dirt bikes. He enjoyed hunting and cooking and smoking meat. He truly loved his two dogs, Sassy and Ranger. He was very excited to become a grandfather of two.

Biography

Della M. Trudgen, age 93 of Pigeon, former Laker High School educator, died peaceful Monday morning, March, 4, at her home in Pigeon. She was born February 25, 1920 in Bliss, Michigan to the late Allen and Mabel (DeGroat) Herman. She moved to a farm in Chandler Twp. with her family in 1934. Della was determined to get an education, so she walked the 7 miles into Elkton and later moved to town graduating in 1939. Della worked in the Detroit area in a variety of jobs to support herself while attending college on a part-time basis. After her first year of college at Washington State in Yakima, Washington, Della worked in the Detroit area in a variety of jobs to support herself while attending college on a part-time basis. Della obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Houghton College of New York, and began her first job as a teacher back home at Elkton High School in 1949. Della continued to further her education at U of M getting a dual Master’s one in Library Science and another in English. Della left the Elkton area for a teaching job at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, in 1955; where she remained until her marriage. On August 15, 1964, she was united in marriage to Joseph H. Trudgen in Elkton. He preceded her in death in 1973. Della took a job at Walled Lake High School until 1968, when she again returned to Elkton and taught at Laker High School until retiring in 1980. Della was a long time member of the Elkton Missionary Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing scrabble and other board games. She and her husband traveled several times to his hometown in Cornwall, England. Della traveled around the US and abroad for years following her husband’s death with friends and family members.

Wiggers was born on November 5, 1926 in Weerselo, Netherlands daughter of teh late J. Hendrik and Fredrika J. (Care) Wiggers. She married Lambertus (Bert) J. Dalmayer on August 22, 1947 in Hengelo (o) Netherlands. They emigrated to the United States in 1955.

She and Fred Yaroch were married October 17, 1939 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. Fred preceded her in death in February of 1962. Theresa then married Theodore “Ted) Verner on August 17, 1989. Ted preceded her in death on November 7, 2007. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking, gardening, traveling, and fishing. She owned and operated the Crest View Motel in Charlotte, Michigan for 25 years.

JAMES JEZEWSKI, age 72 of Burtchville, formerly of Cass City, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his home under hospice care. He was born on September 12, 1940 in Cass City to the late Walter and Helen (Joos) Jezewski. Jim served in the US Army. Jim and Joann Booms were united in marriage on December 25, 1994 in Cass City. He worked as a police officer for Cass City, and the Tuscola County Sheriff Department. He served over 30 years on the Cass City Fire Department and ambulance service, and was fire chief for 6 years. Jim also worked as a security officer before retiring. Jim enjoyed camping and hunting, and loved going for road trips to watch the freighters travel through the river.

She and Ralphael Koroleski were married in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan, on May 25, 1957. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2011. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Port Austin. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and the Detroit Tigers.
