Fire destroys power head of wind turbine near Elkton Monday - video and pics

     Flames and black smoke were pouring out of a wind turbine late Monday afternoon near Elkton. The fire broke out in Excelon's Harvest Wind project turbine #17 about 5pm, and burned for about an hour. Several parts of the power head can be seen falling during the course of the fire. Elkton-Oliver Township firemen were called out, but there was little they could do, other than to make sure it didn't spread to anything on the ground. The owner of the turbine will start the investigation to see what caused the fire, and make plans on getting parts to the scene to return the site to an operational state.
