Recently, WLEW's Kyle Bensinger had a chance to interview Fred Orr, owner of Orr's Drug Store in downtown Pigeon. This past February marked 100 years of service for Orr's Drug Store! It was in 1919 when Mr. Sutton, the owner of what was then known as 'Sutton's Drug Store', joined the military to fight in World War 1. While he was away, Fred's grandfather, Robert Orr, took care of things. But, once the war was over, Mr. Sutton realized that he didn't want to come back to Pigeon. And from there, Orr's Drug Store was founded! Robert Orr was in charge for a long time. Even after his "retirement", Robert still stopped in about once a day to check on things. Fred's father, John Orr, began running the business. Fred Orr didn't always want to be pharmacist. Though he worked at the store, it was not his plan to take over. Fred attended Michigan State University for some time, and finally ended up getting the credits he needed to become the third generation owner of Orr's Drug Store. Everyone in the community greatly appreciates everything that Fred and his family & staff do on a daily basis! We wish Fred the best, and look forward to another 100 years of outstanding service!
