Caseville Fire Chief Ben Willenburg Thursday morning told us he was called back to the Rush Lake area where a brush fire from Wednesday rekindled. He said the fire had been knocked down Wednesday and residents had reported it glowing in the area overnight. He said there were 20 to 30 foot flames when he returned. He said the DNR had told them they should let the fire burn itself out. He noted no buildings or residences had been threatened by the fire. Willenberg said they closed McCormick and McIlhargie Roads in the area because of the fire. He said the fire started when an adjacent land owner had used a 4 wheeler to get to the back of his property to find a property marker. The 4 wheeler was left running and ignited either cattails or phragmities (frag-might-teez). On Wednesday, Caseville Fire had Oliver Township Fire Department assist at the south end to make sure property owners there were not threatened, Caseville Fire also helped make sure nothing was threatened. Also at the scene were the Huron County Road Commission and the Huron County Sheriff's office which flew its drone over the fire.
