Fire fighters from 5 departments were called out Monday morning when a large metal pole barn shed caught fire on Maxwell Road. Owendale fire Chief Ed Champagne said the fire was at Ricker Farms at 5100 Maxwell Road, between Bach and Huron Line Roads. Champagne said it was fully involved when they arrived, and was rolling with fire inside. Once it went through the roof the building was gone. He said the structure and the farm equipment inside were a total loss, but there was no dollar estimate available. Small explosions inside the structure he said were caused by the tire popping along with propane and acetylene tanks. There were no injuries and the house was far enough away that it was not endangered. An insurance investigator was to come to the scene Tuesday to look into the cause. Owendale Fire Department was called out about 9:30 Monday morning and was on the scene until about 2pm. they received a full assist from Winsor and Oliver Township Fire Departments and tankers from Elmwood and Elkland Township Fire Departments.
