On Monday evening, Ubly Schools hosted a gym rededication night to recognize the new gym floor, as well as a few players that made history on it.
The night of February 24th was chosen for the rededication ceremony because the original gym floor was dedicated on February 24th, 1937.
On February 24th, 1967, the "New Gym" was dedicated as several classrooms and the floor was updated in 1966.
As part of the ceremony, the 1937 basketball players were honored. They were Glen Dafoe, Eljay Bowron, Harlan Ogle, Clare Ramseyer, Marvin Gentner, and Merrill Hagen, coached by Elwin Hensen.
Three family members, E.C. Holdship, Ervin Maurer, and Lambert Jaroch, were honored in their honor.
Also, the 1967 team was honored. Greg Zulaf, Gary Zulaf, Jim Hund, John MacEachin, and Loyal Bismack were honored but unfortunately could not make the ceremony. Don Janowiak, Gary Ross and Carl Murdock were also honored but unfortunaely have passed on.
However, three members of the 1967 team made the ceremony and were honored. Lytle Bensinger, Tony Terbrack and Fred Maurer were each given a piece of the old gym floor that was stripped this past year.
After their honoring, coach Richard Holdship was kind enough to offer an audio segment that was played for the players and the crowd, and can be heard on the provided video.
The ceremony concluded with an honorary ribbon cutting by the honored players in attendance and Ubly Basketball Senior Players.
