Laker Schools held their monthly Board Meeting Monday night, and it was nice to see people in attendance to a school, like so many others in this area, that hasn't seen much life for the past couple weeks due to the weather. The General Fund Bills were approved to be paid for the month of February at a cost of $59,321.45, the Food Service bills for the month of February paid at $3,883.81, and the 2018 Capital Projects were paid at a cost of $69,360. Elementary Principal Kathy Dickens was awarded this month's Anchored in Excellence Award, for everything she does to benefit the school and it's students. Kathy has been responsible for well over $1,000,000 in new grant money just this year! Lyle Gascho of Bay Port was nominated to represent Laker Schools at the 47th Annual Thumb Meet of Champions on May 28th, 2019. Everyone was in agreement to approve the list of Spring Coaches as presented for the upcoming seasons. Last month, the Board authorized the posting of an Innovation Center Director to set the stage for the new skilled-trades facility that is set to open in the fall. Discussions related to the duties, responsibilities, and schedule of the position are continuing, and a job posting should be issued shortly. And lastly, Paul Scaddan was officially signed on as the only new member of the board for 2019.
