Firemen from 7 departments were called into Harbor Beach Monday morning when fire broke out in Al's Restaurant about a block south of the main light just before 4am. Firemen were battling visible flames through the roof for several hours using aerial trucks to pour water on it from above. Harbor Beach Police told us they evacuated two people from an apartment and at this point there are no known injuries. Heavy smoke downtown may mean business in the area may have to vent out their places. Fortunately the smoke was traveling east and avoided any problems at the near by Harbor Beach Hospital. There is no information on a cause, or any dollar damage estimate. Al's Restaurant at the scene appeared to be a total loss but still standing. Firemen were working to keep the flames from spreading to nearby buildings in the area.
