Cass City Council made the decision to repair Helen Stevens Memorial (Public) Pool rather than close the recreation area as part of Monday's regular meeting agenda after hearing comments from Pool Manager, Erica Martin.
Her monthly report presented to council included the statistics of attendance in Summer Camp sessions. The lowest session attendance stood at 35 with the highest thus far being 83.
Many options were laid on the table to either build a new pool, repairing it, closing or updating the pool with a splash pad park.
Martin voiced her concerns on the issue stating, "We know not only the pool is in bad shape, we need a new line, we need cement fixed, we need tile fixed, the locker rooms need attention...We need to keep in mind, we love the idea of a splash pad but not just the pool, other parts of the pool need to be updated. We need it to be worth it, and our main things are our lessons and programs in the water."
After deliberation about finances and logistics, council voted to a phase one completion of pool repairs and to phase two the splash pad.
