Cass City Village Council has received several presentations from a group of investors who are looking to open a local marijuana growing facility and advised they offer an informational meeting to the public which occurred Tuesday evening at the Cass City VFW Hall.
Investors showcased a slideshow presentation that discussed some of the statistics of Medical Marijuana Grow Facilities in Michigan. The industry is projected to earn more than film and organic foods and triple the revenue made by the NFL according to their information. It was also suggested that with the 277,000 registered patients in Michigan and the projected $700 million dollars in medical marijuana revenue expected that Cass City reap the rewards.
Constituents and Council were all welcomed to attend with a question and answer period to follow. Many citizens expressed positive opinions such as the health facts and what benefits they could see in the stagnant economic growth in the village. A small number of people expressed their displeasure or questioned the plant itself and what it would do to buyers.
It is understood that the state would keep three percent of the six percent sales tax made on the sale of the marijuana and the municipalities opted into the program will receive the other three percent. In addition, the "seed to sale" process of tracking and monitoring the plants supposedly makes it impossible for black market dealing within the facility.
Tom Herron shared, "This could lead into something more. I myself am against smoking marijuana, but this is going to be a big thing in the medical field and we need this."
In a show of hands after the discussion period, a majority of the people there approved of the facility coming to Cass City.
