Dr. Lawrence Ventline, now returning resident of Port Austin, is a retiring member of the clergy, but prior to his retirement he managed to be invited as a guest with the clergy to visit South Korea and the demilitarized zone (DMZ) of the two Korean countries.
Ventline was a Catholic Priest in the Hamtramck, Dearborn areas and as part of the honor of joining the efforts of the Unification Church, was able to travel with other clergymen to visit Seoul, South Korea, but to also gain a presence and an understanding of the people in the Korean Peninsula in fall of 2017.
The famous and late Reverend Sun Myung Moon was reponsible for this bond between the world's religions meeting together for events such as these, but it was his wife, still living in Korea, who was able to enlighten Ventline and also share information about one of her largest admirers, President Kim Jong-Un.
"His wife, Dr. Hack, a.k.a. 'Mother Moon'...she got flowers on the fifth anniversary of her husband's death, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, while we were in Korea from Kim, " Dr. Ventline recalled.
The purpose of the visit to Seoul was to attend events, sanctify unions and more as part of the Unification Church, which was a large part of Rev. Moon's career, but a much larger purpose presented iteself. As Larry purposed, they were there to represent peace and partically aide in the unification of the entire Korean Peninsula and North Korea's role in the rest of the world. They also, supposedly, made an impact on President Kim too.
"Our little bit of presence there, and we did have a marginal protest in the DMZ, we carried signs and we carried peace slogans...so all of that of course, in one moment, is captured for peace. So whatever we can do to help promote peace, whether it's in the neighborhood or in the DMZ, to reconcile North and South as it seems our President and President Kim are trying to do."
Ventline believes that a physical act or presence plays an instrumental part in unification, in order to make a difference it has to be more than a few words, but an action and then a promise kept. With that, the effort of himself, the clergy and the entity of the Unification Church, he, and many others in that movement, believe their work was essential to the mounting summit between the U.S. and North Korean presidents, and the unity of the North with the rest of the world.
