The weather has been clear and bright for most of this week, and with the spring weather finally settling in it is time to burn.
A Department of Natural Resources controlled burn was conducted Thursday April 26th on a 179 acre parcel in the Rush Lake State game area located in Lake Township, specifically at the intersection of McCormick and Etzler Roads.
According to Rob Shields, Forest Fire Supervisor from Sault Ste. Marie, "burning is designed to regenerate warm and cool season grass and brush, remove the thatch and set back the woody, encroaching brush. This particular burn is designed to benefit pheasant habitat by improving nesting possibilities and broaden their cover."
Other burns are also scheduled for this spring in Brookfield Township in the Gagetown State game area as well as Verona State Game area.
There are other fires occurring in the area caution and courtesy to personnel is advised.
