The most recent phone scam swindled a Tuscola County resident out of thousands of dollars according to the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office.
Criminals are contacting victims claiming "your computer has a virus and you must contact Microsoft at a this number, and if you don't take action, your bank account would be hacked."
Essentially the scammer claims to want to help you move funds "somewhere else".
In the case of this scam, the caller "coaches the victim to take a large amount of cash and go to a business that has a "UN bank machine."
The "bank machine" deals with crypto currency, and though the UN bank was contacted, once the transaction happens there is a small window of opportunity to report fraud.
The scammer usually continues to call, and in this particular case, Tuscola County Sheriff Deputy Kyle Bischer answered the phone, and the scammer, immediately hung up.
If you or someone you know may have fallen victim to a phone scam contact your local police department.
