Some changes have been proposed for the Port Austin State Harbor, which were highlighted last week in a streaming meeting with state officials. Brian Dunn, the Port Austin Harbor Supervisor said that at this time the changes haven't been finalized. One of the major changes would be an addition to the breakwall system at the harbor. He told us one option being considered is outside the harbor and would protect the entire harbor from wave action it experiences. The other option would be for one inside the harbor to protect the docks in particular. Dunn said both would be rubble stone structures. Those proposals are the results of a wave action study. The other changes would be to the docks, which would be replaced and would allow for more transient and seasonal dockage. At this point the fueling station has no issues and is not included in any proposed upgrades. The timeline for the project is slated for as early as 2023, and much of the work would be done in the off season, to allow the harbor to be open during peak times. Dunn provided us with a link to a recording of the meeting, that you can find below.
