Voters Approve Updated Vassar City Charter

The city of Vassar has some new governing regulations following Tuesday's election.

Voters approved the adoption of an updated city charter in a vote of 164 yes to 89 no votes to become a Home Rule Charter City.

The ballot issue asked "Shall the 2025 city charter proposed by the Vassar Charter Commission be adopted?"

Voters said yes by 75 more votes.

A city's charter is a foundational legal document that establishes the framework for a city's basic structure of powers and its authority as a local government.
