Columbia Township Moving Forward On Some Road Work

The Columbia Township Board of Trustees approved contracting with the Tuscola County Road Commission to have some work done this summer.
The township approved having the road commission use 1,500 tons of limestone to be put down on Ashmore Road south of Bay City - Forestville Road at a cost of $39,775. Graf Road South of Dickerson Road along with some other locations in the township to have limestone put down where it is needed at a cost of $45,400. It was noted, the board is still waiting to get a quote for tiling that needs to be done for the Ackerman Road project before it can move forward.
Regarding other maintenance issues, the board approved increasing the budget from $10,000 to $30,000 to cover the additional drain work and brush spraying to be done by the drain office. Also, the board approved purchasing and having Kincaid Electric install a 60 KW natural gas-standby generator at a cost of $59,225. The federal ARPA funds the township received due to the financial impact of the COVID pandemic will be used to cover that cost.
During the meeting, township resident Steve Ewald spoke of concerns of intersections for general traffic and farm equipment needing to be more visual by having more clearance to see oncoming traffic. In addition, he also brought up the issue of the need for the Colling area Plat to have property lines and setbacks established because they are not able to be clearly determined.
Amy Petiprin was appointed to the position of deputy clerk and received the oath of office. She is to be added to the township bank account to be listed as a signer.
