Residency requirements for those who are on-call have been relaxed in one community.
During the last Sebewaing Village meeting, the council approved increasing residency requirements from within 20 to 25 miles from the nearest boundary of the village. The change is those who do on-call work for those who can reach their duty station within 30 minutes of driving under normal conditions. The change was unanimously approved by the council, and is expected to open the field for more responders.
In other action, approval was given to send the Harbor Commission a letter to have them pay a Minimum of $100 per year in order to repay the start-up money they were given. The Village of Sebewaing paid for some start-up expenses back when the Sebewaing Harbor Commission was originally established, and that debt has sat there for a few years. The village would like repayment of the debt with $100 per year so it would not be too burdensome on the Sebewaing Harbor Commission to be able to repay, explained village Clerk Dena Kish.
