During Tuesday's meeting, the Huron County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of equipment along with a new hire for the sheriff's department.
Approval was given to purchase three portable radios for the sheriff's department from Digicam Global 911 Inc., for $7,176, and hiring Noah Braun as a full-time corrections officer at step one pay scale of $50,881. Although hiring Braun was approved, he will not be able to start until Aug. 10.
In other sheriff related matters, the resignation of Deputy Sheriff Nathan Leppek was accepted with regret. He has worked for the department for 11 years. His resignation letter cited that his personal commitments have been too time consuming and could hinder the performance of duties with the department. His last day will be Aug. 9.
Also, the commissioners authorize board chair Todd Talaski to sign the participation forms for the national opioid settlement with Kroger. They also approved a lease of the commercial kitchen at the Huron County Senior Center for the Human Development Commission (HDC) to use from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2025.
