Anglers in Michigan's Thumb region have received the latest fishing report from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), offering insights into current conditions across various waterways. Current water conditions can be viewed at
waterdata.gov/mi.
In Lower Saginaw Bay, walleye fishing has been slower recently, with some success reported in depths of 26 to 28 feet of water north of buoys 1 and 2. Trolling with crawlers and crankbaits has been effective, especially east of the Sparkplug and near the north end of Callahan Reef in shallower waters. Meanwhile, in Eastern Saginaw Bay, inner bay fishing has been challenging, though anglers have found some walleye off Callahan Reef in 12 to 14 feet of water and better catches in depths of 22 to 25 feet over the bar and deeper waters north and east of the shipping channel.
Port Austin has seen good walleye catches around the lighthouse and westward in depths of 25 to 35 feet, primarily using crawler harnesses. At Harbor Beach, a variety of salmon and trout species, including lake trout, coho salmon, steelhead, and more, have been caught in depths of 130 to 160 feet east of the harbor, with walleye also appearing in shallower waters using artificial lures and crawler harnesses.
In Port Sanilac, salmon and trout have been active in depths of 130 to 140 feet northeast of the harbor, with evening walleye catches occurring in 60 to 70 feet of water.
Anglers are reminded that a valid
fishing license is required for anyone aged 17 and older to fish these waters.
