Michigan's upcoming deer hunting season will introduce new regulations approved by the Michigan Natural Resources Commission for fall 2024, aimed at expanding hunting opportunities across the state and ensuring a safer hunting experience.
Key updates include:
- Extended archery season until Jan. 31, 2025, in select counties: Huron, Kent, Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair (excluding DMU 174), Tuscola, Washtenaw, and Wayne.
- Expanded legal firearm use during muzzleloading season in Zone 2 of the Lower Peninsula. Specific equipment requirements apply in limited firearms deer zones.
- Expanded access to early (Sept. 21-22, 2024) and late (Dec. 16, 2024 - Jan. 1, 2025) antlerless firearm seasons on public lands.
- Introduction of a new extended late antlerless firearm season from Jan. 2-12, 2025, in specified counties and deer management units.
Hunters can obtain a discounted antlerless license for $5 each during the extended late season.
Additionally, baiting regulations, antler point restrictions (except in DMU 122), and the combination license allowing for two antlered deer remain unchanged from 2023. Early and late antlerless season counties also remain unchanged from 2023.
These updates demonstrate ongoing efforts to effectively manage Michigan's deer population while providing increased hunting opportunities statewide.
