Michelle Choate Faces Charges Following Disorderly Intoxication

Michelle Choate, an 85-year-old resident of Bad Axe, appeared via Zoom after being charged with disorderly intoxication in the early morning hours of July 24. The charges stem from an incident where her blood alcohol content was recorded at .186 upon apprehension. Choate has entered a not-guilty plea to charges that could result in up to 90 days in jail and a $100 fine.
A no-contact order has been issued, barring Choate from directly contacting her ex-husband and daughter. An exception has been made for essential communications concerning childcare for her two grandchildren, which she assists her daughter with. Allowed communication is limited to phone calls or texts solely for childcare arrangements.
Choate's bond was set at $5,000 personal recognizance as part of the legal process.
Upcoming dates in her case include a plea cutoff on August 14 and a court appearance scheduled for September 5 at 11:30 am.
