On the evening of July 21st, a stark reminder of the dangers of distracted driving unfolded on Elkton Road, just a quarter-mile before Dunn Road. At approximately 5:45 PM, a 29-year-old Elkton resident experienced a harrowing single-vehicle rollover accident while driving a 2024 Chevy Silverado.

According to the Huron County Sheriff Departments police report the driver admitted to using his cell phone moments before the crash. This distraction caused him to veer onto the west shoulder of the road. In a panic to regain control, the driver overcorrected, leading the vehicle to leave the roadway, overturn, and finally come to rest in a farm field entrance.

Fortunately, the driver was able to exit the overturned vehicle without assistance. Elkton EMS arrived on the scene and assessed the situation, but the driver declined transport to the hospital.

The Chevy Silverado was towed away, but the incident leaves behind a crucial message: distracted driving can have serious consequences. The use of cell phones while driving not only endangers the driver but also poses a risk to everyone on the road. This crash underscores the importance of staying focused and alert behind the wheel to prevent similar incidents.
