A failure to yield led to a serious two-vehicle collision in Verona Township on the evening of July 18th. The crash occurred at approximately 5:53 PM at the intersection of Hellems Road and Learman Road, resulting in significant injuries and damage.
Huron Central Dispatch alerted first responders, including the Bad Axe Fire Department, Central Huron and Thumb Ambulance, and the Huron County Sheriff's Department, to the scene.
A 58-year-old woman from Bad Axe, driving a 2013 Ford LGT Conventional pickup, failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with an oncoming 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The Pacifica, driven by a 37-year-old woman from Harbor Beach, was carrying her husband and two teenagers.
Emergency responders had to extricate the driver of the Ford pickup, who was trapped inside the vehicle. She reported chest and hip pain and was later diagnosed with a spleen laceration. She was airlifted to McLaren Lapeer Hospital for further treatment after initially being taken to McLaren Thumb Region Hospital.
The Pacifica's driver and passengers sustained various injuries, including hip, leg, neck, chest, and abdominal pain. They sought treatment at McLaren Thumb Region Hospital, with the front-right seat passenger being transported by Central Huron Ambulance.
All parties involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The driver of the Ford pickup was cited for failure to yield.
