Over 70 workers at the Huron County Medical Care Facility, represented by SEIU Healthcare Michigan, have announced an informational picket scheduled for Tuesday, July 30th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The picket will take place at the facility located at 1116 S. Van Dyke Road, Bad Axe, MI.

The workers are protesting proposed pay cuts, which include a reduction of $1400 annually through the elimination of Sunday and holiday premium pay, as well as cuts to paid leave. Union leader Heather Collon stated, "Huron County’s proposal takes us in the wrong direction, making us feel unappreciated and disrespected. We need living wages and reasonable time off to keep staff in the building. Cuts to our wages and benefits create a staffing crisis that harms both workers and residents. We are calling on Huron County to agree to a contract which puts resident care first."

The previous union contract expired on December 31st, 2023, and negotiations are ongoing.
