Honoring Excellence: The 2024 Bean Queen Candidates

The 2024 Bean Queen Interviews unfolded last night, showcasing a diverse group of young women vying for the honorable title. The contenders include Makaila Mae Cantrell, a recent graduate of Ubly Community Schools with plans to attend MSU in the fall. She is the daughter of Ryan and Melissa Kramer from Ruth. Jose Catherine Grifka, will be a senior at Ubly Community Schools this fall and is currently pursuing a Cosmetology Program at the Huron Area Technical Center to obtain her license. Her parents, Kevin and Shelly Grifka, reside in Ubly.
The last finalist, Lindsey Lucille Learman, a graduate of Bad Axe Public Schools, currently works on her family's farm alongside her father and grandfather. Additionally, she serves as the Religious Education Coordinator at her church and Adams School. Lindsey aims to assume a managerial role in the farm's operations in the future. Her parents are Brian and Delynn Learman of Bad Axe.
The judging dinner took place on July 23rd, hosted by the Huron County Bean Growers' Association in collaboration with Cooperative Elevator Company, ADM, Farmers Cooperative Grain Company, Bayside Best Beans, and Star of the West. This event provided a platform to honor these exceptional young women, celebrating their accomplishments and aspirations within their communities.
The highlight of the event will be the crowning of the Bean Queen on the evening of July 28th at the Huron Community Fair. This occasion promises to showcase not only agricultural excellence but also the dedication and promise of these remarkable individuals within their local community.
