In a heartwarming turn of events, the community's collective efforts have led to the safe recovery of 74-year-old Sharron Perkins, who had been missing for over 24 hours. Sharron, who suffers from dementia, disappeared after wandering away from her home on Bay City-Forestville Road around 10:48 a.m. on Sunday, July 21st. She was found just north of Forestville by a dedicated search team, bringing relief and joy to her family and the community.
The response to Sharron's disappearance was swift and comprehensive. Deputies from the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office and firefighters from the Delaware Township Fire Department were among the first to arrive on the scene. Recognizing the urgency and complexity of the situation, a multitude of resources were rapidly deployed. This included the Sanilac County Sheriff and MSP K-9 units, Sanilac County AERO and MSP Aviation Units, Sanilac County and Southeast Michigan Dive Groups, Sanilac County Search & Rescue, Huron and Oakland County Sheriff's Offices, Minden City and Port Sanilac Fire Departments, and Christian Aid Ministries Search & Rescue.
The search effort showcased an extraordinary level of coordination and community spirit. Volunteers from all walks of life joined forces with law enforcement and rescue teams, combing through dense woods and challenging terrain. Special thanks were extended by Sharron's family to everyone who liked, shared, posted, and followed the search on social media, amplifying the call for help.
Sharron was found alive and stable, and she had been transported to a hospital for necessary treatment. Her safe recovery is a testament to the tireless dedication of the search teams and the powerful impact of community solidarity.
