Residents are urged to be vigilant after a recent unsettling incident involving a local teenager in Elkton.
A concerned parent reported that her 17-year-old daughter, who often walks to the Dollar General, was followed and approached by a strange man. The man, described as being of short stature and appearing Latino, was driving a white, two-door car. The girl noticed the car trailing her as she walked and eventually parked outside the store.
The man reportedly approached the teenager, asking invasive questions such as where she lives, her phone number, and her name. He also commented on her appearance, calling her pretty and claiming he lives in Bad Axe.
Feeling threatened, the girl provided a false phone number and attempted to evade the man by walking home. Despite her efforts, he continued to watch her.
Her mother stated on social media that a picture of the suspect's car was obtained and that she will be filing a police report with the Elkton Police Department for investigation.
The parent emphasized the importance of teaching children to protect their personal information and to make noise if they feel threatened.
