The village of Pigeon has an active historical society and a unique museum, which is starting to show its age.
The museum is housed in a historic train depot, which needs some repairs to preserve it. The council received and approved the quote from Metacase for $15,025 to have the necessary repairs done to the depot. Because of the cost, the council is expected to ask voters to approve a low millage they plan to put on the Nov. 5 ballot to help offset the cost of the repairs.
In other repairs, village President Michael LePage received quotes for updating the flagpole at Veterans Park that is more than 60 years old. The community held an event at the flagpole and park on Memorial Day for the first time in many years.
During the meeting, there was an update on the plans for a new playscape and the fundraising that will be done to offset costs. In other matters, approval was given to allow the Huron County Suicide Prevention Coalition to use Veterans Park on Sept. 12 to place a Craving Memorial Garden for suicide prevention awareness.
It was also reported that the location of the Thumb Two-Cylinder Club's tractor show at 11 a.m., Sunday (July 21) is being moved to the field at the end of James Street over concerns the weight of the tractors might damage the parking lot. The tractor show is part of the Pigeon Farmers Summerfest that will happening over the weekend.
