Just like everything else, the expense of proper training and equipping firefighters is going up.
Due to that, the village of Deckerville will be hosting an informational meeting at 6 p.m., this coming Monday (July 22) at Wilson Park. The information that will be presented is the cost of equipment and operating the fire department, and an explanation of the millage request that is needed for the department's operation.
The village will be asking voters during the August election to approve 6 mills or up to six years. If approved, the millage will generate abut $74,832 the first year, and cost a property owner with an $80,000 house about $240 year to have fire protection service.
Deckerville Fire Department provides fire protection services to parts of the townships of Forester, Wheatland, Bridgehampton, and Custer townships. The department also provides fire partition services to Marion Township; and the village of Deckerville. Besides fighting fires, the department also does stand by for downed electrical lines, route coverage detouring traffic during accidents and structure fires, man power to assist in helping load a patient in an ambulance.
