Suspicious Activity Leads to Felony Charges for Bad Axe Man

Alexander LeRash, 33, of Bad Axe, was arraigned Monday before the Honorable Gerald M. Prill in the 73B District Court on two counts each of possessing ammunition and controlled substances under habitual offender provisions.
The charges stem from a July 29th, 2023 incident when a local tractor supplier alerted central dispatch about LeRash acting suspiciously in their store for over four hours. A Bad Axe Police officer found LeRash in possession of a controlled substance. A search of his vehicle uncovered rifle rounds, shotgun shells, and handgun ammunition, leading to charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition as a felon.
On August 7th, Huron County Sheriff's deputies located LeRash at Meijer after an extended absence. More ammunition was discovered in his vehicle, resulting in another felony charge.
LeRash missed a scheduled arraignment, leading to charges of absconding. A subsequent traffic stop led to his arrest on additional charges related to ammunition and controlled substances.
On July 15th, the plea agreement, read on the record by Huron County's Prosecuting Attorney, included LeRash admitting guilt to two counts each of possessing ammunition and controlled substances under habitual offender provisions. Charges of absconding and one count of possession of ammunition were dismissed.
