The Bad Axe Police Department's swift and coordinated response led to the arrest and arraignment of two individuals on multiple felony charges following an early morning drive-by shooting on Saturday, July 13th.
At approximately 1:45 a.m., Bad Axe Police officers and deputies from the Huron County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a shooting on South Silver Street. According to the investigation, a white sedan, allegedly driven by Jodi Tibbits, had stopped in front of a residence, and DeMondre Williams allegedly fired approximately 11 rounds from a semiautomatic pistol before fleeing. Several bullets struck and penetrated the occupied home, but no injuries were reported. It was later determined that they had targeted the wrong house.
Later that day, around 4:45 p.m., the Bad Axe Police Department, in conjunction with the St. Clair County Sheriff's SWAT Team and Huron County Sheriff's Office deputies, executed search warrants at two locations - one within the city at the trailer park behind KFC and one outside city limits. As a result, Jodi Tibbits, 41, and DeMondre Williams, 27, both residents of Bad Axe, were taken into custody and lodged at the Huron County Jail.
Tibbits and Williams were arraigned Monday afternoon in the 73B District Court on multiple felony charges. Both face charges for Weapons - Firearms - Discharge in or at a Building, Carrying with Unlawful Intent, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Additionally, Tibbits faces two charges of Felony Firearm.
The Bad Axe Police Department's rapid response and thorough investigation were crucial in swiftly bringing the suspects to justice.
