Sanilac County's Commissioners convened the Finance and Administration Committee meeting after the last regular county meeting.
The committee agreed to recommend the sheriff's request to sponsor two new hired recruits to attend the Schoolcraft College - Wayne County Regional Police Academy. The class starts today and goes until Nov. 8.
The new hires are Joshua Orzel and Robert Arnold. The classes cost $6,813 and the housing cost is $7,225 for a total of $28,076 for both men.
That cost will be reimbursed by an Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Public Safety Academy Assistance Program grant.
It was noted the housing cost would be paid by the sheriff's department and reimbursed by a grant at a rate of pay of $85 per day.
The committee also approved recommending the purchase of 15 computer workstations for the administration and treasure's office at a cost of $1,223 from Dell, which was the lowest, and to go along with that 15 Microsoft Office licenses for $300 each from Dell.
Those purchases were necessary because the current workstation systems are old and no longer met the recommended hardware and software specifications or running documents.
The committee also recommended approving the purchase of 50 Rugged laptop computers for the public safety units from Panasonic, which had the lowest cost of $1,7450, along with 50 Microsoft Office Suite licenses at $300 each.
The purchase was necessary because the current computers are outdated.
Those laptop computers will be used by those mappings for 9-1-1 dispatchers and other public safety personnel.
