With Michigan's boating season in full swing, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issued a notice to be aware of issues of power loading boats. Proper boat ramp etiquette goes a long way in protecting equipment, the environment and infrastructure.
According to the DNR, one safety option is to avoid power loading. Power loading is when a boater uses the power of the boat motor to load and unload a boat onto and off a trailer. Doing that can erode sediment and dig large and hazardous holes at the base of the ramp. Doing that will also push eroded sediment into a mound a little farther out into the water. And, tires could get stuck, boats can bottom out and the launch ramp could even collapse, the DNR noted.
