NWS Issues Alert for Strong Thunderstorm in Huron County

The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a special weather statement for southeastern Huron County. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and half-inch hail. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, causing minor damage to outdoor items.
Just before 3:00 PM, the NWS Detroit issued a special weather statement for Bad Axe and Kinde, effective until 3:30 PM. This initial alert warned of wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour and pea-sized hail. Fifteen minutes later, the NWS updated and extended the statement until 4:15 PM to include Port Hope, with threats including wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour and half-inch sized hail. Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Bad Axe, moving east at 15 miles per hour.
The NWS states the storm will primarily impact rural areas of southeastern Huron County, including Bad Axe, Filion, Helena, Kinde, Port Hope, Rapson, Redman, and Verona. Residents in these areas should seek shelter indoors to stay safe.
