The Michigan State Police (MSP) is sending 35 troopers to Milwaukee to help with security at the 2024 Republican National Convention. This response comes after an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request from Milwaukee.
EMAC allows states to help each other during emergencies, with costs covered by the requesting state. The MSP team, led by Capt. Gregory Morenko, will leave Michigan on July 13 for a seven-day mission. They will handle security and crowd management outside the convention center.
Col. James F. Grady II, MSP director, said, "We're ready to support Milwaukee. Our troopers are trained for crowd management to ensure safety for all. We've planned to maintain adequate staffing here at home."
Since joining EMAC in 2002, Michigan has deployed MSP personnel for events like Hurricane Katrina and the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
