Michigan communities most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are set to receive a significant boost of $24.2 million in Michigan Spark Grants. Administered by the Council for Michigan Foundations in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the grants prioritize equitable distribution to areas with previously limited investments in recreation.
Supported by the Governor's Office of Foundation Liaison, the initiative emphasizes community engagement at all stages to ensure diverse voices shape project development and execution.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer highlights the grants' importance in fostering tourism, job creation, and healthy lifestyles, stressing the inclusive and community-driven nature of the initiative. Across the state, new parks, updated facilities, and recreational trails are underway, aiming to enhance the well-being of residents and visitors alike.
