Jelly Roll Jailhouse Music Studio to Open at Genesee County Jail

Inmates at the Genesee County Jail will soon have a chance to immerse themselves in music. The Jelly Roll Jailhouse Music Studio, set to open next week, will teach inmates music theory, instrument playing, songwriting, and recording.
"When folks record the music, they own it," Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said, emphasizing that inmates will hold the intellectual property rights to their creations.
On Tuesday, July 9th, Sheriff Swanson announced that the program would feature a special appearance by the artist Jelly Roll, who is scheduled to visit the jail on July 27th. During his visit, Jelly Roll aims to collaborate with inmates to create a hit song in the newly established studio.
This innovative program is not only a step toward rehabilitation but also part of a broader effort to provide positive outlets for inmates. It offers a means for creative expression and the potential to start a new chapter in their lives through music.
