Speed, alcohol, and not sitting properly on the Gator contributed to an ORV crash on Saturday night in Harbor Beach.
A 23-year-old woman from Ray, located between Washington Township and New Haven, was involved in an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident on the evening of July 6th, resulting in minor injuries for her passenger.
The incident occurred at 10:46 PM on a property in the 3300 block of Port Hope Rd. The driver was heading west when her 22-year-old passenger, also from Ray, fell off the 2007 John Deere Gator XUV. The driver reported hitting a bump, causing the passenger to fall from the ORV.
The passenger admitted to drinking and was not seated properly at the time of the accident. She suffered a possible minor injury, complaining of head pain and memory issues. She was taken to Harbor Beach Community Hospital by a private vehicle for treatment.
The Huron County Sheriff's Department noted that the speed of the ORV was a contributing factor in the incident.
Authorities remind everyone to wear a helmet and seatbelt when riding off-road vehicles for safety.
