On Saturday at 9:44 p.m., Huron County deputies responded to reports of a small boat going in circles without a driver in the 9000 block of Sand Point in Caseville Township. A patrol boat set out to seach and was later joined by a Coast Guard vessle from Tawas. The search was called off at 2:30 a.m. due to low visability before it resumed at 5:45 a.m.

The driverless-boat was found 1.5 miles south of Caseville, and the missing boater, a 45-year-old Lansing man, was located safely on shore. It was found out that he had swam to shore the night before after being thrown from the vessel.

Alcohol was found to be a factor in the incident, which is thought to be a factor in why the man did not report his vessel after reaching shore. Authorities are taking action against him for his negligence. Officers express relief that no one was seriously injured.
