A Macomb man fell asleep while driving on Lakeshore Road in Sanilac County on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a crash that caused minor injuries to his passenger.
Around 4:38 p.m. on July 7th, Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting the single-vehicle crash. Deputies and Croswell EMS quickly arrived at the intersection of Lakeshore Road and Sunset Blvd in Worth Township, located between Lakeport and Lexington, near the Watertower.
The driver, a 21-year-old Macomb man, veered off the road after falling asleep, causing his 2014 Chevrolet Malibu to end up in a ditch and strike a sign before re-entering the roadway.
While the driver was uninjured, his 20-year-old passenger from Rochester Hills sustained minor injuries. She was treated and released at the scene by Croswell EMS.
Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors in the crash, according to a press release from the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office. For more updates and information, you can follow their official app.
