Around 7 AM on Monday, July 8th, Brighton Post MSP Troopers responded to a break-in at the Sylvan Township Water Treatment Plant on Old US 12 Road. Employees discovered the incident upon arriving at work.
While taking the report, a 33-year-old Belleville man was spotted leaving the building and was immediately arrested. Investigation revealed he had caused extensive damage inside the plant and tampered with system controls, potentially jeopardizing local infrastructure.
The suspect cut through a barbed wire fence to gain entry and spray-painted windows to avoid detection. He even made a makeshift bed from items in the facility.
Currently held at Washtenaw County Jail on multiple charges, the suspect's actions have prompted authorities to advise Sylvan Township residents not to drink the water until safety tests are completed, despite no visible signs of contamination.
