According to the
Michigan Storm Chasers on Facebook, the National Weather Service has released initial findings for Michigan's 12th tornado of 2024, which touched down in Lewisville, a small village nestled in the heart of the Thumb region in Huron County, between Kinde and Port Hope along Kinde Road.
On July 5th, tornado sirens were activated in Bad Axe, Port Hope, Port Austin, and Harbor Beach. Fire departments from Bad Axe, Harbor Beach, Port Austin, and Sherman Township each reported to central dispatch about a touchdown of an actual tornado around 4:30 p.m.
This brief tornado created a short path of damage north of Lewisville and west of Huron City Road. It moved parallel to Kinde Road, crossed Huron City Road, and dissipated 0.3 miles after touching down.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The damage was primarily limited to crops, although a few softwood and hardwood trees were also impacted in the area.
This tornado struck 20 minutes before an EF-1 tornado, which traveled 12 miles, hit Lake George, New York.
